right now im going to just give an example of how much my computer can get upgraded for a very low price. The computer im using now was in worse shape than the one i just bought when we got it back in '01. it cost us $200 to buy(tower, monitor, mouse keyboard and speakers). It came with a ****** cd rom drive, the equivalent of a pentium 2, a motherboard of unknown origins, and one 1.03GB hard drive. 4 years and roughly $400CDN later, it now has an AMD Athlon XP processor, new AMD motherboard, Top of the line cd rom, two 40GB hard drives, New awesome speakers, cd/dvd burner, new printer, Pinnacle Studio 9, and the only real problem with it is the shitty old SiS video card.

Go to his computer and click on the start button. Click on 'Run' and type in dxdiag in the box and click ok. This will bring up a window with tabs along the top. The first window is the operating system and processor ram etc. Write those down and also click on the video tab. Give me the processer, ram, memory, harddrive info. Also get the video card info. Come back and post it.

I'll find out tomorrow or if he calls a meeting via our website's chatroom.

4 years is a LONG time for computer hardware. I'm only going to say this once. Stop wasting your time and money by buying junk. Fuck the upgrades. If you include the upgrades in your final price you are willing to pay I can guarantee a better deal on a new pc. If you want to waste your money though go right ahead and stop listening to me. I've built computers from scratch since '95. I think I know what I'm talking about.

MentalFrog is right. Top-of-the-line computers dont cost $1500. Relatively decent computers cost $1500. Top-of-the-line computers cost $5200. (a bit less if you build it yourself from scratch, maybe about $4000)

The advice here about buying new is solid.

Video-editing needs a fast computer.

$1200 US should do it.

You can get a decent box for under $500 USD. Here is a store I deal with. I usually start with the base model then tell them to put better components in such as a HD power supply, more ram, bigger HD, additional fan, better DVD burner etc. Their base $400 CDN system works out to $550 CDN after that. Throw in a 15" LCD panel display and you are looking at about $780 CDN.

Note that for higher end video processing, you may want to get a dual board, but it's still a good price.

Note: I always get the systems without any software.

You should be able to sell it to SE so they can upgrade their FFXI servers.

You could refurbish the files on the computer and hope to find kiddy **** on it, and if you do you can blackmail the guy who sold it to you for like, 50 grand.

Your parents had the same problem. As soon as you came from the womb they "walked right into that one." ;)
