Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. said it will quit marketing a drinking game called "Bud Pong" after discovering that some people were imbibing beer during the game instead of water, as directions specified.

The nation's biggest brewer rolled out "Bud Pong" in July, sending kits to beer wholesalers in 18 states. The bar game is played by bouncing ping pong balls into cups of liquid, with participants taking a drink if they lose a point. Anheuser-Busch suggested players fill the cups with water. A New York Times article Sunday described players using beer instead.

"It has come to our attention that despite our explicit guidelines, there may have been instances where this promotion was not carried out in the manner it was intended," Anheuser-Busch spokeswoman Francine I. Katz said in a statement Tuesday.
I would love.. LOVE... to see a tape of Ms. Katz saying that with a straight face.

"We are horrified (giggle) to learn that, despite our explicit guidelines (snrrrk), people played this bar game with beer (ppfffphtt...) instead of water! (Are the cameras off? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!)"

Who the fuck plays ANY game where you're penalized by having to drink water??

Why is a company known for its beer marketing a game they feel is not meant for their own product?

They did not try that in our area. We have several accounts that have Beer Pong. They call it Bar Pong. I guess Bars participating in Bud Pong where just handing over beer for the games. Free beer is a no no according to the ABC.

Our accounts have a pitcher special the same night as Bar Pong. I do not think you can get in trouble for having patrons in your bar drinking beer that they purchased, regardless of how it is consumed.

Honesty is expensive in the corporate world. If Ms. Katz didn't lie, they'd just hire someone who would. By now, we should pretty much expect it. Of course, they are just trying to avoid lawsuits. Nonetheless, it seems a small thing to ask to simply agree Bud Pong isn't worth lying over.

I had no idea you had to have some sort of "kit" to play beer pong.

Who knew solo cups and ping pong balls wouldn't suffice?

My husband has this board game he bought years ago at Spencer's Gifts called Pass Out that has a similar warning on it. It tells you that it is not for use with alcoholic beverages, yet there are also warnings on it that it is not to be used by minors, and don't ever drink and drive.

Minors have much smaller stomachs and can't handle the amount of water that is ingested while playing the game. I bet that's the reason for the warning.

I dont need a game to get me to drink beer.

However, beer pong gets the girlies in the mood to flash the twins quicker. I am a fan of girly boobs.

+1 Beer Pong

They're just being "PC". Trying to suck up to the man.

Of course no one buys it. Everyone knows what your supposed to fill the cups with.

That's kinda like those big fat battery powered vibrators that companies market as massagers. We all know what they are, and where they are going. I just guess suzie homemaker would rather ********** with a massager then a vibe. Smiley: lol
