was watching discovery channel last night about this person who makes a diet of eating spoiled meat.

he puts differant meats in a jar, sometimes for as long as a year, raw, and lets it aquire i nice head of mold. then he takes it from the jar and eats it, raw. even demonstraited it on camera.

then he went on to explain how doing this as cured many of his afflictions, adn how other people should read his book on the matter and follow his example.

i couldnt help thinking the only affliction he cured doing this is being saved. if you believe in God, you by proxy also have to believe in demons.

bet he was a republican too.

dont know. they had someone there from the health department, and all they guy could do was grimace. he didnt understand why the man wasnt already dead from doing it.

the part i find disturbing was how the discovery channel treated it like some type of new medical treatment, and neither encouraged it, but didnt discou\rage it either. why they would actually give this man exposier to the masses, and even give the name of his book on camera.

mabe next week we will see a documentary on how eating raw human flesh and drinking human blood has saved some other person from the same affliction. the affliction of being saved.

this country is in sad shape.

we ARE on the wrong path. but, hey, lets make sure them darn gays dont get married.

What, you want a law against ingesting spoiled meat? It's not as if he's feeding it to his kids or something.

The Appendix was used to process tough fibers that we humans back couple 100k years ago ate. Maybe there are some make-ups of the human body that were used to process spoiled meat that I am sure we ate back in the day.

there are people who can be easily misled into thinking this is a good idea. he may not be feeding it to his children, but by exposing it to the masses, and then the media treating it like there is nothing wrong with it, you cxan bet, he will be indirectly feeding it to somesones children.

the masses are idiots. they see it on T.V. and think it must be good. you want to know how many of them are idiots, just look at the number of people in this country who BELIEVED what Bush told them.

look at the stupid wench in the headlines recently who thought it was a good idea to feed a baby nothing but raw vegtables and raw fruit.

there needs to be some kind of accountability somewere for letting a lemming lead the stupid masses off the cliff.

I love how Shadowrelm can twist a simple documentary about some dumbass eating spoiled meat into part of his crusade against the Republican Party.

There are a couple of cultures that deem rotting flesh a delicacy. The eskimos (I think) like to bury their fish heads and the fish eggs and let them get nice and rotten then eat them. Can't remember the name of it right now. Saw it on Nation Geographic. There is also another culture that likes to do the same with seal meat.

Sounds pretty disgusting to me, but to each his own. Needless to say they mentioned some people have become violently ill or died because the process was not done properly.

There is a difference between rotten and fermented. Just about all cultures have been using fermentation to alter certain foods for a very long time. Soy Sauce, ketchup, pickles, sauerkraut, salami, and pepperoni are all common items that have been through some fermenting proccess.

A viral strain? Of what, exactly?

The thing I'd be worried about is botulism.

I know little of Biology and the such. If a piece of meat was taken from a butcher shop, properly cleaned and sealed in an air tight container, what exactly could grow on it? Does the meat break down and cause the mold or is it some foreign body that attachs to the meat?

Nothing in this world is perfectly clean, and all you need is one bacterium/mold spore in order for the **** to grow.

IIRC botulism needs a pretty low to almost oxygen free environment to grow, generally if you have any other visible sort of mold or bacteria growing then conditions are not very good for botulism.

A very common danger for botulism is homeade garlic oils. It loves the low acidity of garlic and the oil ensures a lack of oxygen. If you're into making this sort of thing make sure you throw it out after you're done using it.
