I remember a handful of these from when they came out...the September 24, 2001 New Yorker (You can't tell from that pic, but there's a slightly off-black outline of the two towers on the black background).

It's a shame they couldn't add photos of the rest of them...

You can see more of the covers here: http://lpe.ajc.com/gallery/view/living/1005/magcover/

The National Geographic cover of the Afghan refugee woman has haunted me since my childhood. I remember staring at her as a little girl like I knew her.

That's actually the cover that I remember best, as well. Did you ever see the special where they found her as an adult?

I also love the John/Yoko image. I can't be mad at Yoko, since obviously John was devoted to her. I made a pendant in one of my art classes once inspired by that image, and my teacher (old japanese guy) told me it was obscene. Smiley: frown

I knew which cover you two were talking about without even looking at it, heh. It was a memorable one.

They did a follow up on her just a little while ago, her name is Sharbat Gula.

Still has those eyes and intensity.

I don't remeber the cover from the original since I'd have been about -3 years old, but that has got to be one of the creepiest pictures I've ever seen.

Quite hot in a creepy way when she was younger. Looking a bit ropey now. Amazing what a bit of carpet bombing will do to ya.
