A lot in my city and in my zipcode. All of them seem to be clustered in low income housing sections around schools.

Now, I don't know who planned the schools locations or the housing locations, but they were obviously morons. The most academically recognized highschool in this area is not in a nice area, and surrounded by sex offenders to boot.

Wait, "Most Academically Recognized" and "Charleston, SC" probably don't do this justice.

Slightly strangely, almost none near me. The only one is some distance away. I live near an elementry school though so there may be restrictions prohibiting them from living within however many miles.

8 with a block of the local high school......

Aren't they supposed to be further out? or is that just offenders of children?

I would like to go on record as being totally opposed to the tracking and reporting on of sex offenders. It is unconscionable that we demand life long punishment from these people in a way that no other criminal, even those convicted of killing another human being, is treated. They've served their time, payed what society has deemed is their debt to it. Let them get on with their lives.

Works in my Firefox.

Found 4 in my town of 17,000. But some of the nearby towns of similar size have 12-15.

Actually, zooming over a little ways and hitting the switch revealed more (though not really near me). My school theory was wrong because some schools in the region were peppered with red dots. After a bit of exploring and looking at police reports, I was taken with an irrational desire to take a drive around with a baseball bat so I figured it was time to move on. Yuck.

Yeah, well, they should have thought about that before they diddled some kid.

Typical emotional response from someone who obviously doesn't mind constitutional freedoms being stripped away a little bit at a time. Good on ya.

This treatment IS part of paying their debt to society. They have the option to not endure this treatment and spend their time in jail instead. Not suprisingly, most don't want to be in jail.

We're an overprotective society as far as our children are concerned. We want to protect them from our neighbors, other children, television, games, movies, you name it, somebody doesn't want their child subjected to it.

Personally, in my little universe I'd relax what constitutes a sex crime, clarify the remaining crimes and put offenders to death. And not after 20 years of appeals. Execution chambers would be one of the exit doors from courtrooms. Any innocent person convicted would be a sacrifice on the altar of swift justice for the guilty.
