The Japanese have the most stringent work ethic on the planet. What happens when the job is done? Answer: you drive your wife crazy.

In the older (nearing retirement) generation in Japan, the attitude that women should be subservient to men is institutional. With 20% of the population 65+, and the longest life expectancy on earth... that adds up to a lot of miserable women.

Maybe they should all start playing MMOGs. It would be bliss for their wives, except for having to clean around them.

Hahahaha. I don't think that's just unique to Japan. My dad retired a few years ago and has been driving my mom crazy ever since. She plans to retire in a couple of years, but it still working full time to get the full retirement benefits.

Anyway, within the first week of my dad's retirement, my mom has come home to 1) all the furniture in the house has been rearranged (and it's not feng shui); 2) the rose garden has been dug up and replaced with vegetables; 3) the fence around the pool was repainted, as well as the plants surrounding said fence; and 4) a completely empty closet because my dad didn't understand the point of a woman keeping clothes that no longer fit her.

My grandfather came to the states 40 some odd years ago. The old Italian bastid couldn't make it through the day without my grandmother. I've walked into his house only to find him sitting in a dark room watching TV with a grumpy look on his face. When I asked him what was wrong, he replied with something about not being able to eat, because Francesca wasn't there to feed him.

I, for one, hope and plan to work till the day I pass on. Even if I'm so feeble I have only the use of a single eye muscle, I'll be contributing something for someone, typing out one character at a time, even if it's just cleanup for Project Guttenberg. (When I'm not emailing my relatives or when they're too busy to interact). And no, the one eye muscle thing is not sci fi. You can do it now. I hope that kind of technology improves *vastly* before I get old, and truly hope never to have occasion to find out.

I totally agree about the MMOGs. Just imagine all they could accomplish in Eq in terms of raiding with that kind of discipline...

Seriously. A guild of retired Japanese geezers could rule any MMOG world.

Raid Leader: Okay we're going to pull the target. Clerics get ready.
Cleric: Wait I think Yoshi is having another heart attack.
Raid Leader: Damnit that's the third time this week. Okay everyone take a break and we'll wait for him to get back.
Cleric: BRB 2 hrs BIO

Unrealistic. Yoshi would work through the heart attack and the cleric would **** his pants before asking for a break.

Japanese work ethic, not USA work ethic.

Of course there'd be a wave of suicides after the first failed raid, assuming they ever did fail.

Ah yes thats right it is Japan. I think they would send kamikazes in after the target. Of course everyone knows this is how rangers were started.
