Quote:
Such an operation usually involves an organization of whiskey-runners, including a distillery owner, still hands and individuals to truck the moonshine to its destination, said Calhoun.

Once there, he said the whiskey is sold out of "shot houses" or "nip joints," illicit bars often run out of individuals' homes, as well as legitimate bars that sell the moonshine on request.

"They call it corn," said Calhoun. "You go in (to a bar) and you ask for 'corn.'"

Many of these establishments, he said, are located in urban black communities.

"Since the big commercialization of (moonshine began), a tremendous amount of it goes to black communities," he said.

Yep.

I am trying to follow where you are getting at with this. If you are being sarcastic, or have a meaning that I missed, then what I am saying is sort of pointless and just ignore.

It seems to me that "moonshine" is pretty American. I know it is made elsewhere, but in this context, when I think of moonshine and African Americans, I think of the rural america, and the south, juke joints, and blues music. That's pretty darn American. Without it, there would be a large loss in our culture. I think you can even make an argument that the rural african american culture that came out of the south was the first "truely american" culture that was not native american, african, or european. It was a mixture of it all. I am thinking in the context of artwork, food, and music.

Yeah, I pimped the idea of rural black people here before. I think most people got it. They do exist, and in larger numbers than one might think.

I was going to read this thread, but there were too many colons and semicolons in the title and it got me confused.

So +1 Kakar.

Oh bah, I don't hate sarcasm. I just seem to be particularly bad at catching it today. Blame fatigue and uhm...I am sure there is something else out there I can blame it on.

Don't blame it on the educational system, blame it on the usual suspects! Video Games, TV, etc.
