Usually his newest sock drops below filter pretty quickly, so when I stop seeing him I just figure his most recent incarnation went sub-default. I just figured it was part of the cycle.

Well, I'm gonna miss the little guy. You know that feeling you get about the little paltry trinkets you carry along in life for a good deal of time? Ya know that broken worn out file in the bottom of your purse, or that expired mustard smeared subway card folded in half in the back of your wallet. Maybe a broken pale green army guy stuck under the seat of your car or the twisted up dayglo slinky jammed behind the dresser.

One of those things you just don't have the heart to throw away because every time you come across it, it sparks a little feeling of comfort. Not because of it's value but simply its familiarity. In a subtle and unintentional way it helps to define a space.

Anyway, adieu to you, my decrepit little slinky.
