Sucks to wait so long for the new season to start.

Of course, you can always watch the original series...my TiVo captures it on occasion so it must be playing somewhere...

You can download (if your into that sort of thing) Season 1 and 2 that played on SkyOne.

Sadly, if you do this you will have to wait a LONG time for the next season.

I was very suprised. I'm a Star Trek nut (obviously), so anything along the lines of StarGate and Babylon 5... ect.. inCLUDING the new Battlestar Galactica I automatically pass off as trash...

but a friend of mine lent me the MIniseries for it... after that I was hooked.. I watched the first season on like 2 days..

I love that way it incorporated politics into the whole thing.. Not the metion the character development is absolutly astounding.

The new series just didn't grab me. Maybe I'll catch on later, the miniseries premier was damn good.

I was a sucker for the old series as a kid.

Images of Lorne Greene and ALPO commercials were drilled into my head for life. Because, as you well know, Battlestar Galactica was brought to you by ALPO, and ALPO's spokesman at the time was Lorne Greene. Every commercial segment had an ALPO commercial, sometimes two of them.

I even had some of the action figures

I can't remember the original show, but I remember the actions figures dolls had those hips with the rubber-band action.

I loved the way the cylons talked... that cold robotic voice...

"By your command"

freaky.. If you watch it now, it's SOOO cheesy..
Mucho hotties in it though, I'll give it that.

..and the theme music. golden

Very decent show though I think splitting season two into two parts was a mind boggling stupid idea.

It's the scifi channel. They tend to do that with most of their shows. Not really sure why. I think they figure that they'll get more viewers if they put their shows on during the summer, and after the fall and spring premiers are done with. It does kinda make sense in a way. Most people who are fans of scifi will watch it anyway, but if they want to capture a broader audience, it's better not to compete with 25 new shows each season.

By airing new episodes during the summer, winter, and second half of the normal season run, they get viewers during times when re-runs are playing, and they get the mid season viewers who maybe are bored with that new show that came out, or got cancelled, and hey! That show we were watching over the summer that was kinda neato is running new episodes...

Not sure if that's the reason, but it's a guess.

As to the show itself. Yeah. It's kinda neat. I like some of the things they're doing, but I feel like they're dragging their feet on others. There's only so long you can keep going on "the cylons are doing weird and random things that we don't understand because they have a secret plan, but we're not going to reveal it yet...". I do like it in that it's not an obvious plot line. My fear though is that it's not obvious because they don't really have a plan for what to do with the story beyond the first couple seasons. If that's the case, expect it to get really really crappy by season 3. I'm hoping that's not the case, but it's just that they seemed to be hinting at some direction early on, but have been in a holding pattern since then.

See I see it as the show is picking up steam and between word of mouth and pure luck a lot of people are starting to pick up on it.

So the second season starts up and people are chomping at the bit for it and starting to follow it closely and pay attention the decide to take 3 month hiatus so people can forget or forget about the plot in the meantime. The avg viewer isnt looking up schedules or aware of the downtime until January and just get lost and move on.

Yeah. I'm still not too sure how much exposure it's getting outside of the sci-fi viewers though. You could very well be right though...

Yup. I agree completely. Most viewers are used to a direct and complete season done in one run (with only a few "skip" weeks depending on scheduling issues with the network), with re-runs in between. The sci-fi channel has always done thier shows differently though. At least every season they've run of Stargate has utilized a split season approach. They tend to run new episodes across the normal season boundaries, leaving the traditional mid season for their re-runs. For example, they did a run of new episodes starting in August, and running through late September (a few weeks into the beginning of the regular season). Then they take a couple months off and start up again and do the second half when everyone is is doing re-runs.

Again. I can't say for sure *why* they do this. Just that the sci-fi channel always has. It does make for some *looooong* mid season waits though, which can definately turn off some viewers.

I think it will only survive via DVD.

I barely gave it a thought... I didn't even know if i was still on TV or not....

That's the 'thing' with trying to make series' on cable channels.. too many alternatives for the short attention spans of the viewers..

Actually, it's only until January, which is nice...they seem to be going with two mini-seasons a year. As opposed to "The Shield" and "Nip/Tuck" on F/X, both of which are also mini-season shows, but run only one season a year. "Nip/Tuck" ended its last season in June or July of '04 and only began the new season in September '05. That was a long-*** wait, especially on the cliffhanger they left us with.

Babylon 5

B5 as trash? Oh, were you missing out! Until BSG came along, B5 was hands-down the best sci-fi show to hit the airwaves ever. I've been getting TNG, which I absolutely adored when I was younger, from Netflix recently (I'm up through the 5th season) and sometimes it's just PAINFUL.

B5 was kinda weak its first season, took off around the middle of the season season, was phenomenal third and fourth seasons, and closed on a weak note fifth season (mainly because they didn't know until the last minute there was going to be a fifth season, so they wrapped most everything up fourth season, and also one of the major storylines of fifth season was obviously intended to be dealt with using Ivanova's character, and just didn't fly when she left the show.)

You should really get the B5 DVDs from Netflix and treat yourself. The acting suffers at times, but the storytelling really cannot be beat.
