So whats up with allas? Im getting that stupid "this document contains no data" crap again.

Just got back from Jury Duty. With my good looks and charm (yeah right) I was able to get out of what would have been a minimum of 5 days sitting in one of those god forsaken chairs trying to decide if the defendant was guilty when really all Id be thinking of is when can I get up and stretch.

If I had the ability to find a babysitter for 5 days and if myhusband wasnt about to go on a business trip, it would have been the kind of trial I actually would have liked to see. It was going to be a criminal case and the defendant was charged with all sorts of goodies, making the case seem very interesting, and would have been colorful, to say the least.

But I got to use my wild card and skeedaddle out of there, after sitting on those hard benches since 8am. I still cant feel my butt yet.

So any of you been picked for Jury Duty? What kind of trials did you get to sit on? And why the hell isn't the small typing button?

I got called for jury duty once, about 11 years ago.

I spent all night practicing various ways of saying, "Guilty!" only to get to the court the next day and have not a single one of the 40-odd defendants on the slate show up. Something about SW GA hicks and making the law come n git em.

Nobody got picked, we all got paid $15 and sent home. I skipped out on riding ta tractor the rest of the day because Monroe's makes the best hamburger steak I've ever had the pleasure of chewing and well, I was a lazy little shiite.

I'd gladly go again if called, though. I've still got my line memorized.

I served jury duty on an assault case (guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty!). The next time I was called to go in for a drunk driving case, I mentioned casually under voir dire that I didn't think signing up for a driver's license constitutes a waiver of one's 14th amendment rights. Oddly, I wasn't picked for that one.

I've had to go into the court house every 2 years, for the last 10 years. I never have served though. The case usually has been settled before I got to voir dire.

The one time I did get to voir dire it was a race to see which side would dismiss me. Prosecutor asked about my education and I told him about my internship with the Public Defender's office, as part of my Administration of Justice degree. The defense asked about my employment and I advised him I was working as a private investigator. Five minutes later I was dismissed.

The guy sitting next to me got dismissed too. It was a solicitation case and the undercover officer (a drop-dead gorgeous Asian woman) walks into the courtroom. The guy next to me leans over and says "Damn I'd pay to nail that myself!" He said it loud enough for the judge to hear. Judge wasn't too happy. Smiley: laugh

I got called once and the judge came in and explained that we were going to be sitting in on a cast where the guy (50 years old) exposed himself to an 11 year old girl.

Just before we went in the fucker settled...I really wanted to see this sick ******* to!

Maybe next time I can put somebody in prison.

I have not been called for jury duty yet. I am 25, is there a certain age o is it just random issues? I feel that I am not missing much other than a couple days off work.

thats why you havent been called. You have to be a registered voter. In Mass you have a chance once every three years to be called. its randomly selected. For my area there are three courthouses I could be called to. For some reason I always get called to the biggest courthouse which is always a hell of a drive for me. Once you've served, even if you dont get called for use, you do not have to serve for another three years. Then your name is put back in the pool and you could be called at any time

Somehow I get my name drawn out of the pool at least every other year. But I'm always excused since I work in the legal field and attorneys generally don't like having other attorneys' staff in the jury.

One of my friends got on a jury for an animal cruelty case. She said once the jury saw the pictures of the dog with no paws because the owner made the dog stand on top of the freaking BBQ grill, she said it was a slam dunk guilty.

It depends on where you live right now, but I am sure more states will do what TX did and change how people are called in. Here anyone with a state ID can be called on, so if you drive you can be summoned.
