Dude I did that and followed the directions perfectly. When I go to join the asylum it tells me I'mnot authed to join!!!!!

Personally, I use this IRC client. It's free, easy to use. It lacks some of the bells and whistles of mIRC and Trillian, but it's always been a rock steady program for me.
