fine

I'll admit after Transistor, I pretty much stopped being as hard core of a fan.

but they still got the Vibe, and that's all I need from them. positivity.. that kinda *****... although they're usually not plentiful on my playlists these days... but I still get into "moods".

but honestly. I can't think of any bands of that particular style.. they are at least original.... problem is... there is only so much originality you can have before you just become a parody of yourself, but they still keep it real.

So what exactly is Ska?

I agree... 311 was cool for a while... but they just got kind of stale. They're nice to listen to once in a while... like if I haven't heard them in 6 months and they happen to be on the radio I wont change the station.

I also can't pass judgement on the new Foo Fighters CD as of yet. I am still trying to give it a fair listen. Thusfar I can say they can keep the "acoustic" disc. I have really liked some of their other stuff though. If I wanted to get myself in a good pumped up kinda mood, Stacked Actors is always the song that does it for me.

Ska music -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska

Ska is a form of Jamaican music which began in the late 1950s. Combining elements of traditional mento and calypso with an American jazz and rhythm and blues sound, it was a precursor in Jamaica to rocksteady and later reggae. It is the predominant form of music listened to by the Rudeboy, Mod, and Skinhead movements, amongst others, with artists such as Symarip, Laurel Aitken, The Charmers and The Pioneers aiming songs at these groups as far back as the 1960s.

Musical historians typically divide the history of ska into three waves. Ska's popularity has waxed and waned since its original inception, and has had revivals of note in England in the 1980s and another wave of popularity in the 1990s.

Is it better or worse than Emo? It's three letter cousin.

I agree with Kelvy. Foo Fighters do indeed suck but I'll not get into this whole debate over what bands are the best.

we all know it's Tool anyways

Smiley: laugh

Ska is probably the opposite of Emo.

and I KNOW you've heard ska, if you've heard any Sublime, that has that fast guitar, fast-reggae sounding 'chop chop chop chop' sound... that's Ska... Ever hear of the Specials? or Reel Big Fish? or Operation Ivy? somtimes accompanied by a brass section?

however, I'll admit that there is alot more **** ska out there these days than decent ska... which is why I stick with the old stuff...

Bob Marley and the Wailers started as a Ska band... you should check it out.. lot of old ska versions of some of thier well known classic songs.. Studio 1

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Impression That I Get

is a fairly archetypal ska song you've probably heard.

No. I haven't.

Ska must either not be very big in Britain or just shit enough to pass under my radar.

Either way i've not heard of those bands.
