Cheer! Flashlight tours are back.Follow

Every Halloween (and Friday the 13th) the Winchester Mystery House does nightly flashlight tours. It’s spooky as hell. For those who don't know, the Winchester Mystery House was the home of Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune. She believed she was haunted by the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles. She continuously built onto the house twists and turns and stairs that lead nowhere to confuse the ghost. Construction was continuous over 38 years until her death. It’s pretty cool, especially in the middle of the night with nothing but a flashlight. If you like eerie thing and are in the area of San Jose, CA check it out.

Any haunted areas in your neck of the woods?

We have abandoned factories and Mental Institutions around here in New Jersey. I have not been to them and probably never will. I used to go to random "haunted" places when I was in college, like abandoned roads and half burnt down high schools. Never saw any ghosts Smiley: cry

That kind of stuff is fun as hell I feel that I may be too old for it. Besides I can not think of anyone that would want to tag along.
For info on bizarre and spooky places in New Jersey CHECK OUT Weird nj. They have been publishing zines of all the jersey hot spots for years. They have a book out now and a show on TLC or AMC or Bravo....

That phase "in you neck of the woods" has been around a lot longer than him. Why you got ta call me a fat black man with a stomach staple? That's just mean! I know who he is but I don't watch him? Does he say that?

#5 Oct 04 2005 at 6:27 AM Rating: Good
I'm calling you a fat black man with a gastric bypass, ya douche.

The guy has coined the term "what's in your neck of the woods?" He probably says it to his wife as he goes down on her.

I think they made a fictional movie based loosely on that house. Rosewood? or Rose Red?

It's fucking cool when crazy people have enough money to stay out of the institutions. Smiley: lol I would love to check that place out!

I don't believe it! Sora changed his avatar.

Probably the most famous haunted spot in the area is Resurrection Cemetary, home of Resurrection Mary.

Legend has it, that somewhere around here a school bus full of elementary children was hit by a train while stalled out on a set of train tracks back in the 50's. Since then, if you parked your car on the spot in the right direction and left it in nuetral, a mysterious force would push you off the tracks even though it was uphill. Some people even claimed that if you sprinkled some powder on the back bumper you could see where the small hands had been. It's now somewhat of a tradition to go out and try it on Halloween. However, the police patrol the area regulary and keep people moving along or it becomes a nuisance for the people that live in the neighborhood.

Charleston, SC is reputed to be one of the most haunted cities in the country. I went on one of those gost tour thingies... pretty interesting. Not to mention 150 year old graveyards look pretty spooky at night

I remember a place like that back in Anchorage. Called gravity hill IIRC. A girl whose name I am shamed I cannot recall took me out there one night. The car did roll "uphill" but it's an optical illusion created by the opposing slope of the hills beside the road. I coulda whipped out some string and a level to prove it, but there was more important business on the agenda. She had such a sparkling personality. Don't you hate it when you can't remember someone you actually LIKED?

I LOVE haunted places! I'd so go with you Soracloud. I love checking out the local haunted areas when I'm visiting different places. I've had a few odd creepy encounters.

As was written in an earlier post, in NJ we have Weird New Jersey, a book/magazine that highlights all of these haunted places.

The closest, and most well known one in my area, is Spy House.

My daugther lives in a house that is haunted. There is one spot that if a woman stands there she feel safe, but if a guy who ever molested someone, stands in the same place they can feel hands around their throat trying to stangle them.

OF course these two men would never say that they actually molested anyone. I tend to believe the victims though.
