So, psychiatrist gave me ambien: day 2Follow

Oh bah, I accidently deleted part of my post, and it just isn't worth re-typing. ***** it.

By the way, what exactly is in Tylenol PM? I believe Katie stated this earlier. This is from Tylenol's website.

Acetaminophen, Diphenhydramine hydrochloride.

What is that second ingredient? Hmmmmmmmmmm? Let's look at Benadryl's website.

OMG....it is the same damn ingredient. I am in shock.

Lets clarify even MORE. There is a product out there called Simply Sleep. It is an OTC for when you just want some sleep, hence the name. What is the secret ingredient? You guessed it!

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride

/end rant

Edit: After looking at Wallgreen's website at the Simply Sleep and the generic Wallgreen's sleep aid (both of which are most definitely Benadryl) I started wondering, how do we really know that using Diphenhydramine in this manner isn't FDA approved in the first place?

FDA Reccomends...

Quote:
Diphenhydramine is widely used in nonprescription sleep aids (Nytol, Sominex, Unisom, Compoz, Excedrin PM etc) with a 50mg recomended dose mandated by the FDA.

Gah, I never said Benadryl wasn't used for sleep purposes. I'm saying that the DRUG Benadryl isn't to be used to treat insomnia. I'm well aware of many OTC sleep aids that are essentially tylenol with benadryl. Isnomnia is completely ******* different, and regular ingestion of such drugs is ******* moronic. Don't take benadryl to cure insomnia, that's all I'm saying. Who gives a **** what over the counter **** does? It's all useless crap.

Further more, ever heard simply sleep's advertisement? Ironically it goes:

Quote:
Simply Sleep, from the makers of TYLENOL, is a non-habit-forming sleep aid product created for occasional sleeplessness.

Key word: Occasional.

OTC sleep aids are not for treatment with insomnia, point made.

Maybe if you had talked more about sleep hygene instead of rantting about Benadryl, folks wouldn't have gotten in your face about it.

I actually don't have a problem getting sleepy or falling asleep. My problem is staying asleep and getting into deep sleep that produces delta waves. I could sleep all night long and still wake up more tired then when I went to bed.

Sleep aids are for more then insommia, some people need them to get the rest they need to stay healthy. Ambien is the only one that works well for me.

The State of Maryland, rather pay for Somma, but my doctor doesn't want to put me on different class of medication that would increase problems with dry eyes. Which is also why I don't just rely on Benadryl for sleep I only use it once a week so state and DEA won't get upset with my doctor about giving me Ambien. They just can't seem to understand the difference between dependance and addiction.

I realize I'm hijacking my own topic, but I figure while she's in the thread I may as well ask something that I've always wondered.

Samira, where the hell did you find Mr. Winky?

I know most don't know or care who I am, I just have one request. Ezekio, if you are going to swear, at least take the 10 minutes it takes to find out how to break the swear filter. Please and thank you.

He just showed up on the back porch one day, in dire need of a shower and reeking of gin. Who could resist?

Doctors, not pharmacy assitants, prescribe things like Ambien because they cure insomnia. Benadryl is a one night fix, and definitely shouldn't be taken on occasion. If ambien doens't work try go back to your doctor and talk to him about it. He knows which drugs cause which side affects and he'll prescribe something that has a lower occurence of the side affects you dont like. Most insomnia medcations act like anti-depressants and take time to build in your system before taking full affect. Whatever you do, don't take ambien and benadryl because you'll feel like sh*t.

Smiley: oyvey

Ambien is not meant to be taken chronically and build up in your system. In fact you are specifically warned *not* to take it chronically.

How about you take the Ambien as prescribed, decrease your caffeine intake, stop exercising at night, start regulating your sleep schedule so you wake/go to sleep at regular times, and perform regular exercise (although not before you go to bed).
