I have to disagree, keeping in mind, of course, that I have seen the stage performance, including once in Toronto when the magnificent Colm Wilkinson (who was actually Andrew Lloyd Webber's first pick to play the Phantom, until he saw the chemistry between Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman) played the Phantom. There is no describing how incredible that performance was...Colm Wilkinson was just larger than life.

Yes, yes he is! Bless you for impecable taste! No one can sing like him. He is my wife's favourite of all time. She liked it so much that she saw the Phantom in Toronto 6 times with Colm, and once with a different actor. He was most beautifully paired with the angelic voice of Rebecca Caine. Smiley: inlove

I have the CD with the Canadian Cast, and we listen to it in the car on trips. I have heard many other casts including the London cast, and they do not even hold any comparison. To hear what I am talking about, listen to the links from this page. They are cut short, but if you compare the voices to the London cast, you will see the lack of power in the voices from the other performers.

When I make my first $100M, I am going to hold an event featuring the two, if I can get them. (Shh.. it's a surprise for my wife).

Edit: You absolutely MUST listen to clip #6 (The Phantom Of The Opera) it is an excellent example of what I am talking about.

Fixed: Rebecca Caine

The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro.
Puritan witch-girly in The Crucible.
Some part in some Shakespeare I no longer remember.

I was more of a backstage person. Painted sets, made costumes, etc.

best part about theatre for me was the back stage shennanigans..

strip poker, fencing in womens clothing, practical jokes. that sorta thing...

however I couldn't take the snobbery of most of the people... soon after I smoked my first joint... and the rest is history..

for all I know I could have been in Hollywood ny nowSmiley: grin I truly had a passion for acting... still do.. buried somwhere.

Is that when you play 5 card stud with zebras? (That's always a howl.)

Were the womens' clothing dangerous, killing people and such? What would posess you to fence them in? Just curious.

Instead of paying for tickets, Jonwin volunteers at the theater as a usher and is able to get a ticket for every 2.5 shows he volunteers for. I use the tickets to go see any of the plays I want.

Jonwin and I are able to get into art movies, shows and museum receptions for little or no cost, with his contections from work and making sure we are on the right mailing lists.

I trying to get him to find a way to get me on the USS Contellation's next turn around cuise.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

You don't know how long I have felt I was wandering alone in a world that was determined to inexplicably deify the Crawford/Brightman combo as being the be-all and end-all for this show.

Brightman has always sounded whiny and shrill to me, and Crawford just leaves me cold. It's strange, when I hear Wilkinson doing other roles--Jekyll, Valjean, Quixote, whoever, I buy him as that character. When I hear Crawford doing them, it's always, "Oh, that's Crawford doing so-and-so." Does that make any sense?

A friend in high school once actually compared my voice to Rebecca Caine's. I'm not anywhere near her caliber, of course, but it was flattering nonetheless.

Anyhoo--The Canadian cast recording is vastly superior. Thank you for letting me know that there is at least one other person in this world who recognizes that.

I myself am going to the theater pretty soon.

It's in a theater but it's actually more like a concert, since B.B. King will be playing.

Quit peeking in my brain (cause obviously it's illegal if you're only 17 in my mind)! Smiley: blush

As to the comment that all the good seats are given to the season ticket holders: As long as I've ordered well in advance I have never had trouble getting very good seats for any show I wanted to see/hear.

Hmm, all this talk is making me want to look up what's cooking this season at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera Company Hmmm. Some good stuff, as usual.

And Kelvy, I was in our Jr. High School production of that famous play, FrankenStein Slept Here (holy crap, I found a script!) I was a sultry Medusa. Smiley: lol
