"Wrong" as in Doom being a standard or as in EQ being one?

Really, I could make an argument for either being a standard. Granted, you had Wolfenstien 3D prior to Doom and Ultima Online prior to EQ but both Doom and EQ were what brought their respective genres into the limelight and became to game to beat (or at least compare yourself to).

With Sarge's face going all bloody as he takes damage. That should be a requirement.

My point exactly. I liked Wolf 3D, it was kinda cool.

So did the guys from id Software, apparently. My point was that no one was using Wolfenstein 3D as the benchmark to compare FPS games to for years to come -- they were using Doom. Even post-Doom, people weren't saying "that game is like Quake" or Unreal or whatever... they were still comparing FPS's to the Doom series.

The most important company obviously used it as a comparison when it counted most.

When they made Doom.

Of course. Which explains all those references in Car & Driver to the Ford Model T.

I played Descent via an LCD projector - 4'x3' image on the wall.

The former Mrs Nobby watched for 3 minutes before she threw up.

Drac used to play EQ projected on a wall, and quad-kiting could turn your face green.

Played first DOOM when I was like 6

BFG did rock

and if i remeber correctly he was pissed at the aliens for killing his pet rabbit, and he carries the dead rabbit around with him.

Im pretty sure that was what happened, unless I made it up, but why would I do that?

Descent never bothered me, and I played EQ on my friend's TV hooked up to his PC back in the day... as far as I can tell, only Doom did it for me, nausea-wise

15 min of FPS view and I have a headache that lasts for hours. The stomache gets topsy turvy but its the headache. I can't even watch TV or look at a computer screen afterwards.

Later versions (Doom 3?) let you turn that off.

The only game that's ever made me queasy was DAoC. I got it when it first came out, and there was some weird video lag that just did me in.

The movie will suck ***.

I loved every doom game that came out. Still remember trying to play a deathmatch game with my friend over a 9600 baud modem.

The lastest one kicked ***. Scared the crap outta me the first few times I played it. The addon sucked donkey balls.
