There's actually 416 people with an average score over 5, just if it's over 5 the system displays it at 5.

Holy shit. A lot of those are ratebots.

Ah, most are also old and have less than 10 posts. I guess it's the statistical fun of making one post and getting a couple 6s.

There's a table of ratings
Every time someone rates you, it puts in an entry
Every time you post, it puts in two entries at your current karma level

Your karma is the average of your entries in this table.
So it's a fucked up average? Each time I post, I do the equivalent of adding two more units to my total, and those units are going to be at my current karma, meaning they won't change my karma either way. So, when I'm rated up or down, does it add a new entry to the table, or does it change both of the entries that first appeared the second I posted to the karma I've been rated to?

The double entries are your karma inertia, it's what keeps people more stable. It used to be only one entry per post but people and posts fluctuated too much.

After filtering it a bit, only 43 of those people have enough posts to rate. And all of the ones who have more than 100 posts on that list... are admins.

What made whoever made this system come up with it? It seems entirely too complex, though I can see how it works fairly well with each time someone hits the rate button. The server or whatever could easily average out the ratings that someone got post for post, like, if I were to post a comment, and someone rated it excellent, someone else rated it good, and another rated it poor, that one post would have the karma of whatever the average would be (including your total average posting karma) and then your total average would be based off've the average of each of your individual posts. It seems like either way you do it, it works out the same way, but yeah, I'm just thinking out loud. I used to love math before calculus.

To Flea: It seems that Katie can post about 5 times, and if EVERYONE who's able to rate DOES rate her an Excellent on all 5 of those posts, it would more than likely drastically raise her total average karma. Each time she's rated, that rating gets put on the table. Now, with what Dana has said, it'll probably be more like she needs 500-600 Excellent (5.00) ratings alltogether. So if she made 5 posts just to be rated (with nude pictures or whatever so people have INCENTIVE to rate her) and everyone able to rate does so and gives her an Excellent, she'd probably move up at least .5 points, maybe even the full 1.0 that she needs.

Edit: yeah...uh, my bad, I meant Flea, I remembered DSD was Green and Nadenu was Red...didn't know you were Red too and I was in a hurry (btw, it's Red and Green in WoW's uh...face...thing?).

Katie currently has 20578 ratings on her.

Plus people keep rating her both down and up, making the upward trend slower.

One example for using raw ratings and not posts is:

Person X posts a really good guide to something and gets 100 6s (Excellent), ends up with a 5.0 post

Person Y posts "Yo Dawgz R U Down wit da whm/blm?" on the whm forum, gets a few rateups, enough to get a 5.0 post.

who deserves a bigger karma boost?
