We moved all day Monday. We're still not totally finished, heh. Still got a few things at the old house, but I work very close to our old place, so I'll just be swinging by after work to get the rest of the stuff.

Then after that, just gotta (semi) clean up the old place and we're done. Oh, and haul off our entertainment center that disintegrated when Mr. Nadenu tilted it up so that he could get it on the dolly.

It's not moving if you don't break at least one piece of furniture.

I'm still so tired.

I've been contemplating a home purchase and I've actually considered buying the place I rent, not because I particularly like it but because I wouldn't have to move. That's how much I hate moving.

You need to be the only one of all your frineds to own a pick-up truck, in order to truely appriciate the hell of moving.

And why is it when a woman says she's packed everything it means she's pulled the full drawers form the dresser and stacked them on the floor and put 40 lbs of dishes into a box that can barely handle 20 lbs?

edit for typo

Whoever the hell thinks that women don't pack are dealing with the wrong women. I've moved more times than I care and I've not yet once hired a moving company. I've done all the packing ( real packing, mind) and unpacking, plus I'm the other one on the end of hoisting those big items into the Uhaul. It's been rare we've gotten friends to help so usually it's just been me and the Mr doing all the work.

While its a pain in the ***, I know my quota for excercise is done for the month Smiley: grin

The next time I move, I'm paying someone to do it. Moving sucks ***.

I always start off well in packing but eventually place a large box at one end of the table and sweep my arm across the table towards it.

It was just me and the hubby and a Uhaul. Our friend with a truck was "busy". Smiley: lol

The really sucky part is our couch. It's one of those overstuffed sectionals that never fits right through any door. Ever. We keep swearing that we're never moving it again, but so far, the damn thing keeps going with us.

I loathe those things just for that reason alone.

I promised myself next time I move I'm finally going to cough up the dough to hire a moving company, but I also keep telling myself that each time we move. I'm hoping we actually do it next time round as we'd be moving down south.

And now for the good part.

When I went to move our cable service, I found out that if you say you're canceling your service, they are offering an incentive to stay with them. 12 months of digital and internet for 60 bucks a month.

So um, yeah... I'm canceling and stuff... wanna beg me to stay? Smiley: grin

I love digital cable.

Yeah, moving sucks. When I left my parents' house at 20, I moved every year for 5 years or so, before staying in the 'frat house' for two years, now I'm on the move again. I'm not sure I want to stay in the current studio I have with my girlfriend for more than a year...

I only like moving when it involves a road trip. Like the time my brother and I drove out to Colorado, helped my sister pack and drive a moving truck to North Carolina, then back home to NY.

A friend of mine moved due to a divorce not long ago, and he was talking about this very thing.

"You start out carefully wrapping each item, pausing now and then to get all misty and look through the pictures and say Aw, we were so happy then *sniff*... and by the end you're just dumping shit into garbage bags and telling yourself you'll remember where it came from, no problem."

Moral: pack the breakable valuables first, while you still give a damn.

Moving blows the big one. The moving company destroyed half of our stuff and lost the other half. We got a huge cash settlement from the company which helped us buy new furniture for every room, including the bedrooms. Next time we move, I'm kind of hoping the moving company will ***** up again and I get to buy new furniture. ^^

I'm moving next Thursday. The final dreaded step in the "move in" with the girlfriend.

No elevator in the new building Smiley: frown

I'll make a prediction that I will soon come to hate stairs.

Luckily my new apartment is on the ground floor, with a sliding glass door to the patio/lawn and a parking lot at the end. Smiley: grin

Hell, we never even use the front door anymore except doing laundry or checking mail.

by the way, it's just a cosmetic change, you could have fixed it at any point by resetting your title on your profile page
