I need a new carFollow

#52 Sep 12 2005 at 8:15 PM Rating: Decent
As far as looks go, the Scion (toyota) xb is a love it or hate it ride. But its dirt cheap for a new car ($14k), has everything you need to drive, seriously tons of room and good gas mileage. Plus it comes with something used cars really don't, a warranty (not like you'd ever use it).

Were it me buying a car for my kid, it will either be that or a toyota corolla ($15k).

I drive a 2001 s-10 blazer 4d 4wd and a 1990 eagle talon awd in case you're wondering. There's definately something to be said about reliability coming out of Japan. My blazer payments are done and I've shelled out $1k in repairs the past three months, and I did the work myself. Not right for a vehicle with almost 90k on the odometer IMO.

You can get a Camry out of lease which didn't become certified pre-owned far cheaper. There's a guy I know in Norco who sells these things for about US$10k. They have 50,000 miles on them and are 3-5 years old. The best ones "fail" certification because the original owner smoked. I have a vitriolic hatred of smoking and had no issue with that car.

However, I've heard other manufacturers are catching up to Honda/Toyoda in terms of reliability lately. The last car I have experience buying is now 10 years old.

Consumer reports is key. Mid-1980's Ford Escorts were apparently awesome while a similar vintage Ford Taurus inspires a mix of awe (at the fortitude needed to keep it running) and pity (at what the bill must be).

Scion TC, my friend. It's sexy, good mileage, and comes with a six speaker stereo standard.

It will run about 17-18k

The Altima died again on the expressway on the way home (luckily, I coasted onto the shoulder and it was far enough south that I wasn't the cause of major delays on the Stevenson.. heh). Got her home, got her to work this morning and I'm renting a car for the week until my mother goes out of town and I borrow her ride for the second week. By the end of which I intend to have a new car.

A Toyota of some fashion seems to be the front runner.

Actually, from reading the thread, you have 3 frontrunners. Toyota, Saturn, and Honda. Again, I personally recommend a Honda, but that's me.

Well, Toyota being the early lead based on this thread and other sources. Like I said, I bought myself a couple weeks to make a final decision though so more research is forthcoming.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with Toyota or Honda, and maybe even Saturn though I've no personal experience with them.

I believe I have settled into a decision. Going to test drive a (used, 2004) Mazda 6 tonight. I had actually rented one last week and liked how it drove and so when I found one in my price range at CarMax last night, it seemed meant to be. Spent the day looking up reviews and reports and nothing scared me off so everyone cross your fingers that my Altima makes it to the dealer tonight Smiley: laugh

Sorry, Twiz

Pretty funny Joph. I was thinking the other night about this topic for some reason, and had made the decision in my head to recommend either the Mazda 3, Protege 5, or 6. I was leaning more towards the Protege 5 because it's a sporty looking wagon type. great for Joph Jr. and all.

That's what the Jr. does. Reels em on in.

He could drive the weinermobile from Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and still get chicks with a cute kid that age and him bein the responsible dad and all.

Sopping wet, I tell ya!

Joph, is it true?

A large part of your attraction was the idea that you weren't getting any

I did not read this thread so my answer may have already been suggested. But I think Father Mulcahay would look sweet driving around in Renault Le Car.

Probably a white one.

I'd think an olive drab '52 open top Jeep would be more appropriate...

I need a new car also, the Nissan Sentra 99 i have is rather weak. I live in Arkansas and i live in the ozark area with all the hills. This little car does not like going up hills at all. I need somethi that can accelerate a little faster (i have trouble passing people, anywhere), and that can just get up a hill without slowing down like a bitch. bach, time to find another job.

I happen to think Bach is pretty good at his job. All his melodies are so damn catchy.

If you will be financing 4yrs+, I suggest buying the gap insurance through your financer. Cost me roughly $500 for my new truck, but it will pay the difference between what I owe and what the insurance company pays if the truck gets totaled.

My sister had her car for 8 months before some ****** ran a red light and totaled her car. Now she makes payments for a car she doesn’t have because she owed more than the insurance paid.

I bought a 2000 VW Jetta with the 2.0l engine with 47k on the ODOT.

Damn reliable car, and was only 12.5k$

Largest repair ive had to do was a Sperintine belt at 75k for around 200$. And thats about the only repair iv needed.

You can drive it hard and long, ive put over 30,000 miles in it in a year.

Exceptional gas milage too.

If you look into them, try and go throught a dealership and find a Certified one. Mine was cerifted and was given new Brake pads, rotors, air filter, four new tires and spare, new spark plugs and wires, fuel filter and was Ceritfied for 30k miles. WHich meant if anything went wrong with the car, it was free.

Let me tell you what, 30k miles worth of free oil changes rock.

Woop, just saw you had finaly bought a car. OH well, hope I helped anyone else out.
