No, this isn't about that farm in Washington. Went to the Rennisance festival this weekend with the wife and daughter. Saw there were elephant rides and figured "Hell, how many times will I get a chance to do this?"

Anyway, Renn fest was awesome. Corsettes everywhere (/drool), got to throw some axes, ate the leg of some random animal (I was told it was turkey, but I have my doubts).

All in all, a good time.

EDIT: 1000 posts, jeebus.

<insert random comment about how it isn't nice to put a saddle on your wife and ride her around in public>

Looked fun though. I always enjoyed the people playing the lute and dulicmer(sp?).

I love the reniassance festival, I had my last birthday there, me and a bunch of friends went in kilts and corsets. I even have some pictures somewhere but hell if I know where they are after my last move...

*mumbles about fiancee insisting on using old-fashioned actual film*

I went to the Ren Faire the past two summers. This year I got so wasted I don't remember leaving, or even being put in the stocks. But there are pictures, so I guess it's true...

We've got a fair like that up here in Mas that goes until October called King Richards Faire They have the jousting, turkey legs, sowrds, axes, shields, etc. People dress up and talk as archaically as they can (which isnt much but it's a laugh).
Im actually going to head up there early October as I'll be down in the area. I keep eyeing the weaponry and wanting to buy some more for my house, but they're always ungodly expensive.

The first time I saw the Giant Skellie Chessboard in Butcherblock Mountains (EQ, eh) it reminded me of the Human Chess Games I used to watch at the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, MN uh, awhile ago.

Went back to the same festival a couple years ago 'sigh' it just wasn't the same.

I saw jousting for the first time last year when the Faire came to our area.

OMG! It's totally insane! They use rodeo cowboys and the biggest damn horses you've ever seen! And while some of it is play-acting, the actual jousting is real! Wooden lances, armor, shields, and guys getting the crap knocked outta them.

The rest of the Faire is a blast as well. Somehow or other, I missed it this year, unless it's coming next month...

Jousting needs trashcan lids, bicycles and clothesline-poles.

Well it did when I was 7

Broomsticks here, but otherwise the same equipment.

My wife actually insisted we make renfaire costumes. I cut out fabric, she worked the sewing machine, I hemmed her dress, she hemmed my kilt (leaves nothing to the imagination I tell you). We had a blast. When Yo-Yo junior arrives, we plan to dress her up and take her along, too. Our local Faire is pretty spiffy:

If they come to your faire, be sure to catch Sound And Fury:

highlight of the faire.

The most kick *** fair I've ever been to in my whole 21 years of life is the Portuguese festival in New Bedford, MA.

That is some good cookin', right there. It's a huge fair where they set up huge grills and sell different types of meat and such. And they have these old portuguese ladies standing around cookin' em up. For the love of all that is good and holy...Best food I've ever had in my life.

That, and they sell alcohol at just about every consession stand. It helps, too.
