to go to LA and help with the clean up? Its either that or go to Houston to help with the refugees there.

Well that sucks! Some of the other USAF wives and I are trying to contact Houston and New Orleans officials to find out how we can volunteer. I mean even if I'm just handing out food or blankets, I just want to help.

I thought about it. I just can't afford to leave right now.

Your local Red Cross is probably a good source to check out. That's where I am trying to get in at the moment, but we'll see.

If I find a place that's taking volunteers, I'll post the info.

I know on www.craigslist.com they are maintaining a list of households that are taking in familes who need a place to stay.

Have you thought about that as a volunteer effort?
#8REDACTED, Posted: Sep 02 2005 at 8:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Of course she hasn't. She just wants to appear like she gives a damn, handing out blankets is about all she is qualified to do, or prepared to.

Besides, we need people like you flipping our hamburgers and mopping our floors

Suprisingly, when you're older than 12, there are more costs associated with leaving home for an extended period of time than just a plane ticket. I have a family to take care of, a mortgage to pay, etc... I also have to think of my job. Right now, during high software rollout season, I just can't afford to take time out. There is no one else to do what I do here.

But thanks for playing, you fermented cunt bubble.

And don't tell me you can't go to the american red cross website and donation 15 or 20 bucks on a debit or credit card.

I never said I didn't. I just can't afford to leave home to volunteer down south right now.

I live in Canada, but if any organization here in my city or in the closest real major city(winnipeg) starts calling for volunteers to go and help, I'll volunteer. If they don't call for volunteers, I'll still be donating moeny whenever possible.

That's adorable! You going to break the piggy bank or give them all of that Canadian Tire money you have been saving? Make sure your parents call the news paper, they love to put cute things about kids wanting to help people in the rag.

While I would love to drive down and help physically, I cant do it with a child so young. Donating money and necessities is what I can do though. Hearing about children dying because of lack of water and medical aid is just breaking my heart.

Sometimes I wonder if basic survival skills should be taught in schools. It would help such a great deal in this situation. The only reason anyone is dying of starvation is because they rely on others to get their food and water to them.

What do you suggest they eat and drink? The food that has all been looted and hoarded already, or the gasoline soaked sewage filled corpse water swirling around their waists?

The point I was trying to make is that people with the basic survival skills wouldn't have to remain in the city. They wouldn't be bound to the super dome in hopes of rescue and waiting on food and water.

Try 593, one way. 1,000 both.

Thats leaving today.

Substantial investment. Not to mention the donations you want to give or suplies you want to send and the things you'll need for yourself to live on.

Think about what you're saying, before you say it in an offhand way.
