The name "Canada" is believed to have originated from the Huron-Iroquoian word Kanata, meaning "village", "settlement", or "collection of huts"

Truly a proud and awe inspiring name.

Also to note prior to dominion a lot of Canada was called Ruperts Land. They were probably sitting around trying to think up a better name when a drunk Indian stumbled by and muttered Kanata.
