Like a '55 Chevy?

Mine's running like a one-wheeled rickshaw pulled by a club-footed Chinaman who ate a heavy breakfast.

massive patching of multiple games again (EQ2 and I believe SWG and WoW this time) and a persistant micro DOS attack out of china are all contributing. plus were maxed out on server capacity again.

Yup running like crap for me as well, has been for weeks, I wondered if a Dedicated cluster for premium could be set up but I didn't get a response so either I guess not or they are knee deep in technical documentation trying to do a feasibility study. Can't anything be done about the DoS attack from china? If alla's is at capacity for the servers it must either be time to push more people to premium or raise the price. I would personally rather see more people go premium but if they are going to get the same speed as they are now whats the incentive?

Yeah, but SW:G is, like, thirteen people

WTF is the point of a DoS attack? I know, I suppose it's the same point to randomly breaking car windows and stuff but still. Besides, this site crashes all on its own anyway so you wouldn't even know if it was your attack that did it Smiley: grin

Breaking car windows = hacking

Stealing your car = DoS

Stealing your car implies they intend to sell it or chop it into little sellable bits. This seems like vandalism, regardless of the extreme unless they're going to hijack Alla's and sell premium accounts.

What?

Sticking potatoes in a muffler = DoS

Annoying, easily done by the simplest of minds, and just plain stupid

DoS stands for Denial of Service, which I assume you already knew.

From this definition we can infer that if your car was stolen, you have been denied the right to use it.

Vandalism would be breaking the windows out, you can still use your car it is just marred...

same effect as stealing the car, once your engine craps out from the potatoe you wouldn't be able to use it either...

Correct, but the intention is to actually make the site unavailable, not make it run like shit...

I will concede this time, but tomorrow is another story.

I guess I was just confused by your analogy. I thought you were refering to stealing a car as in it takes some knowledge, tactics, skill and will ultimatly be used for profit.

DoS is no more difficult than downloading a script, plugging in an IP address and distributing it to PCs owned by people too lazy, ignorant, or careless enough to leave unpatched PCs connected to broadband.

DoS atatck would be somone cutting in front of you wehn your driving and going 10 miles below the speed limit. (maybe flattening tires)

Hacking would be breaking into your car.. or siphoning your gas or somthing....

Stealing your car would be... stealing your PC...

Potato in muffler, or sugar in gastank would be virus or worm.

I was stuck in traffic for an hour and a half today Smiley: mad
