Mr Whitby said: "An Asian guy ran on to the train. As he ran, he was hotly pursued by what I knew to be three plain-clothes police officers.

"As the man got on the train I looked at his face. He looked from left to right, but he basically looked like a cornered rabbit, like a cornered fox.

"He looked absolutely petrified.

"He half-tripped, was half-pushed to the floor.

"One of the police officers was holding a black automatic pistol in his left hand. They held it down to him and unloaded five shots into him. I saw it. He's dead, five shots, he's dead."

Am I reading this right? The police were chasing the suspect, suspect fled onto a train, tripped/was pushed and fell and the police fired into him point-blank rather than arresting him?

That seems... strange.

Distraught? Smiley: bah I doubt I would be distraught after I watched a guy who was gonna blow my *** up, get shot right in front of me. Smiley: yippee

In one of the links it says they thought he was about to detonate a bomb so they shot him.

On the news the police just said he was one of those identified from yesterdays attacks.

I believe the RoE atm is that if any person is suspected of carrying a bomb they are to be killed if they don't give themselves up when challenged.

He was wearing a bulky coat in the height of summer, was suspected of an attempted terrorist attack yeasterday and ran when police challanged him and ran into a crowded train station vaulting the barrier and getting onto a train.

that satifies the RoE, if he had given himself up he would be alive, but no he ran and he's dead.

Just wanted to make sure I was reading it right. I would have thought they'd want him alive if possible and laying on the train floor would be a good time to get him alive. Details seem sketchy though so who knows the entire circumstance?

Nah, it's a "natural" 4.70. I just tend to get rated up more often than down, I guess.

It did spring up about .2 when the admins killed the ratings from some of the worst rate-socks though so I guess someone out there had a hard-on for me for a while.

Dealing with suicide bombers is a dicey situation. They're generally wearing bomb vests with some sort of push-button trigger. You can't get them to surrender because, well, they intend to kill themselves in the attack anyways. If you hit the vest with bullets it may very well explode. The only real options are restraint or disablement of the arms, or a headshot. Under the circumstances it's an imminent threat scenario, just as if the man was waving a gun at them.

I take back my "Englishmen are vaginas" comment. If only our police would start doing that. Anyone who runs gets a bullet.

well... the laws of natural selection indeed are obviously still in effect.

That's how I watch "West Wing"...someone usually is making some sort of speech or something, and I just zone out and listen to the cadence and pitch of their voice.

so was this guy one from the other day or not?

the sky link is saying he was suspected in the other days bombing, but the BBC indicates that the police say he was not one of the 4 from the other day...

either way, if this guy was challanged, ran, and looked as suspicious as he did, i do not blame the cop for bringing him down and hard. ie 6 feet under (2m)

After 41 years of living with a mother who ended up a C-Span junkie, you develop special news filters.

Keywords of comments like "This just in" or Special Report get my attention.

Though I'll filter out reports about runs on toilet paper, brad and milk if there is just a hint of possible snow storm in Baltimore.

He wasn't one of the 4 bombers, but was under surveillance in connection with yesterday's events.

As a limp-wristed liberal whiner about human rights, innocent until proven guilty etc.etc., I feel obliged to say.... PWN3D!
That's the way to sort out the fuckers!

Running away from a TARU is judge and jury enough for me.

1 guy arrested in Stockwell earlier, and news just in of another arrest in Birmingham.

Yup initial reports wher that he was one of the bombers but it trancpires that he wasn't but they thought he would lead the police to them.

But when he headed for the Tube they tried to take him in and ended up taking him out.

'Vital questions'

The Muslim Council of Britain said Muslims were concerned about a possible "shoot to kill" policy.

Spokesman Inayat Bunglawala said: "There may well be reasons why the police felt it necessary to unload five shots into the man and shoot him dead, but they need to make those reasons clear.

"It's vital the police give a statement about what occurred and explain why the man was shot dead."

no they do not. the man ran, he was doing something he should not of been doing. there is no reason to run from the cops unless you are doing something WRONG. it is really that simple. that is the ONLY statement the cops need to give.

i do look forward to getting more info on this guy, but as for why the cops shot him dead, he was told to stand down, he ran, his dress and demenor(sp?) were enough to give the cops good reason to fear for their life and the life of the citizens around this man, so they shot him dead.

to "The Muslim Council of Britain" you want a reason, look in your back yard and clean out your trash and point out ALL of the terrorist in your mists, then you will have your reason plane an simple.
