What else can yield a "+" and change everything? Nobody needs prior knowledge of anything to put two and two together.

Let's just say that the difference between adding and subtracting can make and break you.

Nice try with the pregnancy though. Smiley: smile

Money can easily make or break a relationship. I think people really underappreciate the difficulty of melding finances.

Why would anyone under appreciate that? I would guess that when one decides to get married, that type of information is already done and dealt with.

I know that the girl is usually surprised with an engagement ring, but I'm talking about post-engagement pre-wedding day here. You sit there and talk about the house/apartment your going to live in, talk about maybe having a kid XYZ time later...

...and NEVER talk about where all this money will come from? I find that really hard to beleive.

Believe it. Most people are wrapped up in the romance. I overheard a conversation the other day at a restaurant where a bride-to-be was getting cold feet because the groom had discussed her having kids in their first year of marriage and she didn't agree. How the hell are you just a few weeks away from a wedding and don't discuss your expectations? But it happens all the time. I'm not saying that's Nephthys' case, but it does happen.

Which is why, should I reach that point, I plan to do the right thing and quit working so I have no finances to meld with her's. It should make that stage a lot easier.

I am getting married soon, and while my fiance and I have discussed this stuff, I usually don't pay attention cause I really dont care. I figure it will get taken care of, so why stress over it.

And women.. don't pull this "No fucking a month before the wedding" crap... Smiley: motz My hand is tired

On a serious note, I agree with X. I know people dont bother discussing these things prior, but I cant for the life of me understand why not? In order to be compatable and make a lasting relationship, people have to be on or near the same page on most aspects of life. If not, 5 years down the road you may be filing divorce papers instead of closing on a house

...thus, another reason why I don't think I'll ever get married. Smiley: laugh

Would it be viewed as "wrong" to make some form of attempt at talking about melding finances?

Don't be overly simplistic. If you try to discuss it during foreplay, of course you may be rebuffed. Nothing is wrong in the relationship if you both agree. It's not like it's this amorphous, amoebalike concept. A relationship's dynamic is dictated by the people in it.
