Today's thread on stupid people and their stupid cars is dedicated to stupid people with "Tuner" cars.

So ... You don't have a lot of money, but you want to be cool like your friends and drive a fly sports car. What do you do?

Well, folks, why not start with an $5,500 '96 Honda Civic Coupe Si. It has 2 doors, a stick shift and the magic letters VTEC on the engine, so it must be a sports car. Now, the biggest shortcoming is that it only has 127 horsepower. Something must be done!

Well... The first thing, as every fly guy knows, is to take off that restrictive stock muffler and replace it with a racing muffler. Now, there are many nice, refined aftermarket mufflers with 2" tips that are very well built - but hey!! Those cost upwards of $600! That's not good! And besides ... 2" is so refined, and doesn't scream I'm fly, so that's out. Instead, let's try a $200 3" piece - it might lack refinement, but it sure does make noise!

Now, fly guy's buddy told him that an intake would help, too. So, better go get one! Refined, high power ICE induction for $600?? NO WAY! I can get a PHAT pipe for $34 on eBay! WOOT! NOW MY fly ride is even PHATTER!

Hmmm... Fly-guy's buddy says that he needs to do the WHOLE cat-back system in order to get any real gains ... but what the hell does that mean? What the hell is a "header" and a "Catalytic Converter?" Fly guy has never heard of those things, therefore they can't be important.

Now comes the most important part. Everyone knows that hub-caps are for losers - you need RIMS! Well, fly-guy knows that "Alloy" wheels are like, totally expensive - and he knows a secret as well... Removing his hubcaps reveals awesome black wheels! WOOT!!

So ... Let's review ...

Fly-guy has increased the sound output of his vehicle by about 100x. Every time he gently presses his gas pedal, every time he upshifts, every time he downshifts, his whole neighborhood has the privelage of knowing! He can't wait until his next paycheque so he can get that uber $50 subwoofer on eBay next week ...

On another note ...

Today, as I was driving to work, I was slowing into an intersection to make a right turn. The light changed to yellow when I was about 20' away - so in accordance to the law (and for the sake of the person waiting to turn left coming the other way) I made a full stop before proceeding ... In my mirror, I see el dumb ****** in her Camry behind me take a nosedive and SCREEEEEEETCH slam on her brakes.

I turn my head and look at her, and she is gracing me with the one-finger-on-each-hand-up salute. I got SOOO pissed! I mean for fuck's sake - she was planning on running the light, she assumed that (1) I would run it making my turn and (2) that the left turner would see her racing to run the light behind me, and now she was flipping me off?

I got out of my car, stared right at her and gave her a nasty stare. She opened her window and started yelling that I was a "TERRIBLE" driver ... Over and over "you're such a bad driver you need to learn to drive you f
uckin' asshole." I just stood there in disbelief. The driver of the car next to her rolled down his window and said "Look, bitch if he hadn't stopped you, you probably would have killed the left turner." I just gave her a big sarcastic thumbs up ... Got back in my car, and didn't move until long after the light had turned green, making her wait until she could get around me ...

Sorry ... story is pointless but I had to share.

What kind of civic would it be without a 2 foot tall aluminum spoiler attached to the trunk with 2 inch lag bolts?

They didn't make an SI in 96 in the states. Must have been a DX with SI badges. =P

Edit: The 99-00 was the first years for the SI coupe, and they way in at 160hp. Fyi ^^

In Canada, the 127 HP Civic Si is the model you know as the Civic EX, and has been called that since the Si hatchback of '95. The Model that you call the Si is called the SiR in Canada, and is the 1.6L 160HP model that you're thinking of. Exactly the same cars, different name-plates. I never understood why they do it like that, but look up the Civic on Honda.ca and you'll see what i mean.

While I agree with you stopping when the light turned yellow, the rest of it was passive-aggressive behavior. It's a good way to get yourself into a situation you don't want to be in. If the driver had been a bit more crazy, you might have ended up in quite the mess, or dead.

Next time, ignore them. It may not be as satisfactory, but it will keep you out of trouble.
