That's what Hillary Clinton should be doing if she has the spare time for this silliness:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton pressed Thursday for a government investigation into how simulated sex cropped up in a modified version of the blockbuster criminal adventure video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

Clinton asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the origins of a downloadable modification that allows simulated sex in the personal computer version of one of the most popular and controversial video games in history.

Speaking of... I'm a guy, I like women. I like sex. I even enjoy seeing sex. But I can't imagine myself digging around through games looking for a hidden chance to pretend I'm having sex on the PC. Imagine how much **** you could download in that time.

It's always depressing to see how little lawmakers understand computers.

I wonder if I published a mod that turned the everyone's favorite paperclip helper in MS Office products into a stripper doing a little pole-dance, whether they would ignore me and go question Microsoft for a week.

Yeah, she wants some hot pixellated **** action. She's just mad that her orientation isn't represented in games like GTA.

Well, here's the thing. The company that makes GTA says the scenes were not on the game CD. The guy who wrote the mod says it's just a key unlocking files that were in fact on the CD as sold.

There are two questions raised. Were the scenes on the CDs as released? And should the rating have been changed based on the fact that anyone can download a key to unlock the scenes?

I don't care either way, but the primary question is not "are they liable for what other people write as addons?", but "are they liable for what they write and release under a given rating?"

Is the PC version rated anything other than M (Mature)? Is there an X rating?

I'm pretty sure her staff did the research before she decided to come out and "take a stand" on this serious issue.

The ESRB does issue an Adult-only (AO) rating, but afaik it has only ever been given to a few explicit PC imports, mostly from Japan. The ESRB issued a statment last week reaffirming it's confidence the game was rated appropriately, just as the Hot Coffee mod hit the news.

ESRB wrote:
Finally, the statement clarifies the original rating given to the game, explaining: "ESRB assigned Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas a rating of M (Mature 17+) with content descriptors for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs."

Rockstar responded officially on wednesday with their discovery that
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=5923 wrote:
the "hot coffee" modification is the work of a determined group of hackers who have gone to significant trouble to alter scenes in the official version of the game. In violation of the software user agreement, hackers created the 'hot coffee' modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game's source code."

But what also came to light was the fact that
Quote:
newly unearthed Action Replay codes have been released that seem to enable the "Hot Coffee" minigame on the retail PlayStation 2 version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, making these section much easier and more accessible to view. Though these codes could still signify "intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse engineering of the game's source code", in Rockstar's parlance, the discovery makes it clear that little or none of the content in the 'Hot Coffee' mod was created by the original game modders.

So it looks like the scenes were on the CDs as released, but unviewable through licensed use of the game.

Politicians acting outraged over something like this sort of thing is a no-brainer, free publicity and just about everyone is going to agree with the position they are going to take.

Remember the whole PMRC fiasco, its easy skirt the real issues and waste time on things that contain sex or "the-devil".

The game companies are ******** themselves by allowing content like this through QA. If they had just:

A: Not included the objectionable content, no matter how difficult it is to unlock

B: Put the content in there, made clear it was available, and allowed the ESRB to rate it as it should be with the content taken into consideration.

There would be no controversy. As it is now they are raising a media furor among soccer moms that will eventially lead to expensive legislation. They will not win this battle against the conservative voting majority. It doesn't matter how many eleventeen year olds are outraged at the egregious trampling of their constitutional rights to see boobies and gore. It's the voters who will decide who gets to do the legislating. This is a bad move, yes the publicity will sell more games today, but what about next week, month, or election season?

It's okay to see implied sex with the hooker (car rocking back and forth), then beat the hooker to death, and steal her money.

But it's not okay to see the actual sex.

That would just be too morally corrupting to the nation's youth.

The youth that aren't allowed to play the game without parental consent.
