One of my coworkers showed me this while I was at work. I thought some of you might like this, and since I did a search and didn't find it I will post it.

http://earth.google.com/

You have to download the application. It's an .exe file.

It's a complete satellite imaging system of the world. Just type in an area/address/whatever, or just grab and drag around the globe to see whatever you want. It isn't live as I am sure that would be illegal for some reason, and it isn't the most awesome resolution but it's still cool none the less. You can zoom, rotate, and even mark spot of special interest. It shows streets and areas of interest too. Cool Stuff!

If my computer wasn't half-crippled by ad-aware after it removed all the spyware and some of my java files, I'd definitely check this out.

Oh yeah. Thanks a lot Ogame.

My co-worker showed me this the other day, it is fun to play with a bit. Especially if you have friends in another state and want to get an arial shot of where they live.

I couldn't find my street, but I found the park about 10 mins walk from it. Very cool.

Yeah I guess the images are a little old. The house I live in was built last year and as a result only a dirt lot showed up. The Collosium in Rome looks cool as hell. For that matter so does Hawaii and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I can find my house in VERY good resolution, i live in a small town of 1,000 in akrnasas.

But for the life of me, the map area of the place i used to live 4 years ago is VERY bad. Illinois 7,000 people.

Cor comparison, i san see my car in my driveway here, but i can't see houses in IL. Very nice find though.

Just out of curiosity, is there any easy way to find landmarks? I searched for Mount Everest and got nothing, which is pretty sad. I ended up having to find the coordinates online.

The white house won't come into focus, either will the area just outside of nellis airforce base in nevada. Bagdad you can see all the wrecked building, boy they have a lot of cars there.

I think its funny that the US government thinks that pixelating things will stop people from knowing where they are.. and what they look like...like the whitehouse for example. Got a cool close up of CN tower but can't see shit in my city(Thunder Bay) because I guess the sattelite didnt spend long enough getting shots of small towns and cities in canada aside from toronto and ottawa....The program still kicks *** though.

Actually I noticed that focus would get bad when you get around 1100 feet above. It'd really be nice if they could refine the images even further.

I'm a big fan of the 3D buildings in major cities...click on "show buildings" and it will show them in their actual dimesions instead of just satellite photos. Zooming through New York at 50 feet or so parallel to the ground gives me a tingly Spiderman feeling all over.

Keep in mind this is still in Beta, so a lot of area is still very low-res.

Wow - looks cool! I won't be trying it at work, though.

Does it use the same imsges as Google's web-based satellite search? That is jst the US IIRC. Fun to play with. I liked the discussions around looking at the Area 51 images.
