Not always.

Batman Begins is atually far superior to the others and at least that was designed to be a Series of films.

This year has been pretty good to be honest, with Star Wars III being atually ok, Hitchhikers Guide being not a total loss, Sin City was good and originally shot.

It's the first year i have been inspired to go to the flicks twice in a month in like 5-6 years.

I liked that movie. Smiley: frown

But I like pretty much all of Tim Burton's stuff. Even Ed Wood.

Apparently Jhonny Depp modeled his Charlie off popular whacko Vogue editor Anna Wintour. I'm still not sure why he comes across so gay, though. Wintour's pretty close to a man.

At the cinema this weekend I saw many a poster for a remake of the "Bad News Bears" which honestly wasn't that great a movie to start with. I can see a remake of something like War of the Worlds where it's just another interpretation (among many) of a classic or maybe even a cult favorite like Dukes of Hazzard to appeal to the nostolgia sect but who sits around pining for the lost days of the Bad News Bears?

Yeah but with Hollywood "what is old is new" Mainstream hollywood really only sticks with a certain number of styles of movies to give the big budget money for. Why? Because the movies that really prompt you to think and are not "Popcorn" movies don't make as money. Those movies are relagated to the independent or are released through the studios smaller divisions. When you only have a certain number of movie styles it is only natural to want to remake previous successful movies to continue to cash in on something that people recognize.

I am actualy realy looking forward to this movie simply because I think Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, who are both known for being slightly darker, will get a lot closer to the book then the Gene Wilder movie did.

And I personally think remaking old movies is a good way to introduce a younger generation to old classics.

Never said it was a classic, I just said it was successful. It spawned to horrible sequals. Also Hollywood has this big wave of Nostalgia going right now so they want to remake everything. Personally I cannot wait to see the Saved by the bell movie in about 15 years when that is a nostalgic retro movie.

I actually went and saw War of the Worlds today, and I must say, they did a pretty damned good job with it. There's a few obvious plot holes, but the special effects were probably the best I've ever seen. I mean, my jaw actually dropped open in some of the scenes. There was just an incredible sense of scale, it was just so believable.

The sub-plot between Cruise and his son and daughter was also done well.

It's certainly something that's better experienced in the theaters than when it comes out on DVD. It's worth the money, I'll tell you that much.

ok, i know this isn't a RL funny thing, but it'd be so effin funny if Michael Jackson (*******!) played Willy Wonka, i'd be pissed if he did but it would be a funny addition to the movie

Apsolutly. Manson would have at least given the true willy wonka more justice than johnny depp ever will. Trying to figure what movies johnny depp was good in is like trying to figure out what movies keanu reeves is good in.

Long live the true willy wonka....

Remaking any Gene Wilder film (with the exception being Young Frankenstein) is gax and #12. Willy Wonka sucked the first time around and it's gonna taste like reheated hammered and canned dog a$$holes this time around. Depp is a terrific actor, but this was grossly unnecessary.

Oh come on, it launched Tatum O'Neal's career, how can it not be classic??

Ok, it was a corny 70s movie, that's true. I'm actually looking forward to this remake. BBT looks hilarious.

I'm really starting to wish this whole 'Nostalgia' trend would hurry up and blow over already. We've had remakes upon remakes now and it's really just getting disgusting that Hollywood can't seem to find a new story to use.

Hell, they probably wouldn't know what a new idea was if one came up and bit them. Multiple times.

Honestly, I've pretty much given up going to the movies altogether because I've already either a)saw the original movie and liked it b) read the book and have no intrest in a movie adaption or c) the whole premise is just pathetic and not worth my time or cash.

Really, what's next? a remake of The Sound of Music starring [insert popular girl-band star of your choice]?

-just to stay on topic-ish: Read the book, watched Gene Wilder move, thinkin' Depp could drop off the face of the earth and I'd never notice. In short I'll pass on the remake.

People don't like when Johnny covers his beautiful face in makeup.. I guess people forgot what made Johnny a star in the first place.

(His role in Edward Scissorhands)

I like the dark, comical feel to this movie. I think it will be one of the best movies of the year.

BTW, is it just me or is Johnny Depp always dressed up in makeup?

Newsflash!

He was a star before Edward Scissorhands.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) .... Edward Scissorhands
Cry-Baby (1990) .... Wade 'Cry-Baby' Walker
"21 Jump Street" (1987) TV Series .... Officer Tom Hanson
(1987-1990)
Platoon (1986) .... Pvt. Gator Lerner
Slow Burn (1986) (TV) .... Donnie Fleischer
Private Resort (1985) .... Jack
A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) .... Glen Lantz

Not that Cry-baby was a huge film but he was known for it. His bigger break was obviously 21 Jump Street. Platoon and Nightmare on Elm Street were small parts that got him on the map.

Whoever it was that commented that Depp has never made a decent movie is a friggin crackhead. I'm sure you also feel that Lindsay Lohan is a "great actress" too. *LOL*
