Why Asylum?Follow

As far as the name goes, I think Trickybeck came up with it.

The creation of the sandbox was partially my fault and that of the old AoK posters, though we never asked for it. There was a several thousand post-long thread in the FFXI main forum that was getting out of hand and was completely off topic. We asked for it to be nuked and moved the conversation to my journal, where it continued for about 33,000 or so posts until everyone either left the boards or migrated to this forum. The problem is that while this was going on, someone started up a "FFXI Off Topic" forum and Alla wasn't down with that idea. That quickly took the name Out of Topic, which was the old name of the Asylum, and this forum was named "Rants"... come to think of it, Tricky might have been the one to offer that name, in which case I'm not sure who would have picked the name "Asylum".

Ahem. God forbid we join a site, and use all of it's fourms. Even the ones that are not related to the reason we join.

I smell a hate crime.

The Out of Topic forum here was just a carry over from the Out of Topic forum on the old uBB boards. When Alla, Illia & Co merged the uBB forums with the Alla forums, the EQ Discussion, EQ Quests, OoT and a couple others got folded in. The old uBB OoT folks moved here and continued their usual stuff and many were hostile to the FFXI people who came over. Part of it was good old fashioned elitist and cliqueishness (that a word?) and some was annoyance at FFXI people who acted like twits and, worse yet, acted as if this was a FFXI site and the EQ people were the Johnny-Come-Latelys. Anyway, OoT people were mean to the FFXI people, some FFXI people cried long and hard that we were mean to them and so Alla went and (after asking us to be nice and that not working) changed the name of Forum=4 from Out of Topic to The Asylum (I think it had a temporary name in the meantime which might have been Rants or something) and made a new Out of Topic forum which was derisively nicknamed "The Sandbox".

I came up with the name "Asylum" only because the favored suggestions up to that point were such things as "The Basement," "The Dungeon," and "The Geekfest NerdSqaud."

Bacon? Out of every possible tangible object you chose bacon to call tasteless and pointless? If you had to go with the pig, it being the obvious target of your hatred, why not go with the stomach lining used in Menudo? Is there some new law that states Mexicans can't harp on their own type of food?

Further more, nobody invented Bacon. Sure somebody came up for the name for it, but it comes from a freakin' animal that as far as I know, gets created naturally on earth(as well as raised in farms).

Anyhow, feel free to use the obligatory "I only said Bacon to get a rise out of you, see, it worked" response. I just really couldn't see how anybody could call bacon tasteless and pointless. Even if you don't like the taste....
