Hell, even given your scenario of eggs harvested solely for research purposes.. guess what? The exact same thing will happen when Korea or France or Sweden or whatever nation beats us to the first cure developed from the technology. Cutting Federal funding does nothing at all to prevent the genie from leaving the bottle, it simply assures that we'll be buying the cures from some other nation once they develop and patent it first.
