Let's keep the flames to a minimum here on this thread. I'm not looking for argument, or debates here, so much as everyones idea on the afterlife.

Is there one or no? If there is, what's your take on it? Where do people go? Whats it like? Is there reincarnation?

I'm not going to start today as Im still trying to wake up.

Hey, dipshit karma camper! The only internet stalker DSD needs is Joph! Back the fuck off!

I really think there has to be something more. I don't know if it's reincarnation, heaven or just another plain of life. I just can't imagine there being nothing after this and its too scarey to even suggest!

I imagine it's much like lunch on the quad or Sunday at the park. Sunshine, napping on your S.O.'s lap (should you go after them) and the occasional bite to eat or run-in with an old friend.

I believe in an afterlife, sadly since your memories are a physical part of your brain I'm afraid I won't get to take them with me. I really hope I'm wrong.

I have an archaeic combination of views... so I'll answer shortly: yes. :)

The slightly longer answer is I believe in both reincarnation, and eventually a time when it's done and you get to the whole heaven/hell thing.

Isn't that like Buddism? Don't they belive you keep coming back until you're finally good enough to get into heaven?

I dont believe in the heaven/hell thing. I believe there is an afterlife, which I like to refer to as the Otherside. I believe in reincarnation.

There are Jews in the world. There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then there are those that follow Mohammed, but

I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic, and have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is: They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer. You don't have to have a great brain. you don't have to have any clothes on. You're A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
***** with more care.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.

If a sperm is wasted,...

...God get quite irate.

Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.

Every sperm is needed...

...In your neighbourhood!

Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.

God needs everybody's.

Mine!

And mine!

And mine!

Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.

God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!

That whole heaven/hell thing is quite silly to me. Personally, I believe that when you die, your soul is split and fragments of yourself seek out a new place to inhabit. That is why you can meet someone who reminds you of a long lost friend, because they both share fragments of the same soul.

or it could be that you have met them and know them before, if you believe in reincarnation

Yeah, it is my own little twist on reincarnation, with a splash of The law of conservation of mass for taste.

This is interesting.

I concider that each of our lives a a type of "fragment" as you put it. We have a "whole" self that is beyond this earthly plane. That whole self is split up into various aspects of itself and manifests in differnt ways upon the universe.

Thus things like reincarnoation merely becomes total incarnartion throughout time... our Timeless souls are scattered through time on earth to play out it's part. Invaritably we are all still connected at some point beyond these bounds.

Thus is you meet somone you felt you've met before, a "fragment" of you soul is interacting with them at another point in time.

Where god or heaven enters into this, I'd say it's just ;larger "fragments" existing on the many Other layers of existance. They all intereact with one annother, so whether you percieve this as "divine will" or just a pattern being fulfilled, that's up to you.

This whole discussion reminded me of these lyrics by Voltaire:

God thinks all blacks are obsolete farm eqipment
God thinks the Jews killed his son and must be punished
God thinks the white man is Satan
God, they know what God thinks

God thinks we should all convert to Judaism
God thinks we must all be Christians and
God thinks we should all embrace Islam
God thinks the only true religion is Hinduism

And I
I know what God thinks
God thinks you're a waste of flesh
God prefers an Atheist

God thinks all people like you are evil
God thinks all people like you are an embarassment to creation
self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own protection

God thinks the sun revolves around the Earth
God thinks there was something very wrong with Copernicus
God thinks abortion is murder and
God thinks everything that science gave us is wrong
God thinks women deserve it
God thinks AIDS is a form of punishment

I hate people who blame the Devil for their own shortcomings and
I hate people who thank God when things go right

And I
I know what God thinks
God thinks you're an idiot
God prefers a heretic

God God
God thinks all people like you are evil
God thinks all people like you are an embarassment to creation
self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own agenda

God is a liberal
God is a democrat
God wants you to vote republican
never trust a man who puts his words in the mouth of god
and says that it's absolute truth
its lies and it smells like death
its all in a day's work taking money from the poor
Why do you think that God would need your dirty money
if he wanted to start a holy war?

self-righteous, judgemental, first to throw the stone
and use His name for your own protection

God thinks puppies need to die and
God thinks babies need to drown
'cause God is neither good nor bad
God is you and me
God is Everything

Yeah, but being raised Roman catholic (insert vomit smiley here), it is still hard to seperate spirituality and religion, since I was raised to believe that they are one in the same.

I think the only thing that remains of people once they're dead (besides a decomposing body or ashes) are memories and offspring......and well, pictures, videos, writings, etc.

Afterlife has a lot to do with religion though, if you are a religious person. It all depends on your stance, but religion can not be taken out of the discussion of afterlife if its religion that makes you believe in a certain thing for it.

Seriously. My fiance's Catholic and I just looooove the fact that I have to go to 6 months of pre-marital counceling and basically get permission to marry the woman I love.

Am I the only one that enjoyed my premarital counseling and learned a little bit from it as well?

yes, but I think that thinking above and beyond your normal believes is called for for any spiritual evolution, for knowledge is infinate, because so is the divine.

It's not that I don't enjoy it; it's the fact that I have to do it. I don't like the fact that I can't get married in the church if I don't follow all the rules. I know, I know, their house their rules. But still...

Edited to add the quote.

Despite my usual presence in religious-oriented threads, I don't have a ton of hard and fast beliefs on the afterlife. I think most people who believe in a Heaven regard it as something pleasantly idyllic like Flea describes. On the other hand, Revelation makes it sound like it's a lot of standing around, glorifying God and basking in his presence. Which isn't my idea of a fun afternoon but then I've never tried it either.

So I guess whatever Heaven is like, it won't be like anything I'd expect.
