We regularly invade and occupy entire nations. While politically and morally questionable, it does imply quite a bit of power and influence.

The Entire US government budget is somewhere around 18% of the entire US GDP. Of that 18%, roughly 2/3rds (12%) is spent on non-discretionary budget items like Medicare, Medicade, and Social Security payouts. The other third makes up the discretionary spending, of which roughly 50% is military. So, 1/2, of 1/3, of 18% is about 3% of oure entire GDP is spent on military...
Just saying.
