1. The only beefs I've ever had with Abit were when they released a Bios updater that sent a mobo into infinite reboot loops and the fact that they over-report the CPU temp by about 10 degrees celcius.
2. This settlement neither forces them to admit guilt nor rewards me in any way. I can send my motherboard off to anyone if I want and they'll all likely keep it until it's obsolete, something I'm sure would happen if I packed it off to ABit today. Not that I wouldn't get it back as fast as they could get around to fixing it; I'm certain that wouldn't be fast enough for me, though.
3. Thanks for the info, though. It's the thought that counts.
I just see nothing of value for the average purchaser of motherboards here. Who's gonna benefit from waiting for repairs? How many people sit at home with a broken PC they actually built, and don't go ahead and replace what needs replacing. Of that set of people, how many of THOSE would actually take advantage of this offer, package the board up and ship it rather than sitting at home ******** and whining about their broken PC.
Seriously, before I'd wait for the shipping and processing time on a straight swap with ABit (much less repairs), if one of my motherboards died today, I'd buy a replacement because I CAN NOT LIVE without a PC while I wait for someone to fix a motherboard. I do everything with a computer, from paying my bills to getting directions, phone listings, and television programming schedules. We won't even touch on the issues of gaming, actual productivity or umm, personal entertainment.
That's what I think.
