I had posted snippets of some poets I like, notably Neruda and cummings, but wondered if anyone else here reads it or has a peice that is meaningful to them. I reserve the right to mock you, though, you pansies.

One of my favorites is from Mario Benedetti, the poet in my sig.

Still
I still can't believe it
you are arriving at my side
and the night is a handful
of stars and happiness.

I feel, taste, listen and see
your face, your long step,
your hands and, nevertheless,
I still can't believe it

your return has so much
to do with you and I
that I say it as an assumption
and just in case I sing it

nobody ever replaces you
and the most trivial things
become fundamental
because you are coming home

however I still
doubt this good luck,
because the heaven of having you
seems like a fantasy.

but you come, and that is sure
and you come with your gaze
and for that reason your arrival
makes the future magic

and although I have not always understood
my faults and mistakes
I know that alternately in your arms
the world makes sense

and if I kiss the audacity
and the miracle of your lips
there will be neither doubts or misunderstandings
I will love you more
still

Oh! I got one!

Progencies of the Great Apocalypse
The battle raged on and on
Fuelled by the venom of hatred for man
Consistently, without the eyes to see
By those who revel in sewer equally

We, the prosperity of the future seal
Cloaked by the thunders of the north wind
Born to capture the essence of
The trails of our kind

Zero tolerance must be issued forth
Behind the enemy's line
So it shall be written
And so it shall be done

Discover and conceive the secret wealth
And pass it unto your breed
Become your own congregation
Measure the sovereignty of it's invigoration

We, who not deny the animal of our nature
We, who yearn to preserve our liberation
We, who face darkness in our hearts with a solemn fire
We, who aspire to the truth and pursue it's strength

Are we not the undisputed prodigy of warfare
Fearing all the mediocrity that they possess
Should we not hunt the bastards down with our might
Reinforce and claim the throne that is rightfully ours

Consider the god we could be without the grace
Once and for all
Diminish the sub principle and leave it's toxic trace
Once and for all

I don't know what I been told,
You Never slow down, you never grow old.

Tired of screwin' up, tired of goin' down,
Tired of myself, tired of this town.

Oh my my, Oh hell yes,
Honey put on that party dress.

Buy me a drink, sing me a song,
Take me as I come cause I can't stay long.

A couple Sara Teasdale poems, the first seemingly fitting for today's climate and the second, though at first blush seemingly about death, is actually about birth and self-sufficiency.

There Will Come Soft Rains
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

The Inn of Earth
I came to the crowded Inn of Earth,
And called for a cup of wine,
But the Host went by with averted eye
From a thirst as keen as mine.

Then I sat down with weariness
And asked a bit of bread,
But the Host went by with averted eye
And never a word he said.

While always from the outer night
The waiting souls came in
With stifled cries of sharp surprise
At all the light and din.

"Then give me a bed to sleep," I said,
"For midnight comes apace"--
But the Host went by with averted eye
And I never saw his face.

"Since there is neither food nor rest,
I go where I fared before"--
But the Host went by with averted eye
And barred the outer door.

Two Words - Kanye West

[Kanye West]
We in the streets playa, getcha mail
It's only two places you'll end up - either dead or in jail
Still nowhere to go...still nowhere to go
Now throw ya hands up bustless, bustas, boostas, hoes
Everybody, f[/b]uck that
Still nowhere to go...sill nowhere to go..

[Mos Def]
Two words, United States, no love, no brakes
Low brow, high stakes, crack smoke, black folks
Big Macs, fat folks, ecstasy capsules
Presidential scandals, everybody MOVE
Two words, Mos Def, K West, hot sh[/b]it
Calm down, get back, ghetto people, got this
Game ball, lock s[/b]hit, dump off, **** s[/b]hit
We won't stop s[/b]hit, everybody MOVE
Two words, BK , NY, bedstuy
Two hawks, too hungry, too many, that's why
These streets know game, can't ball, don't play
Every traffic, one lane, everybody MOVE
Two words, Mos Def, black check, hot s[/b]hit
Calm down, get back, ghetto people, got this
Game point lock, long pump cocked
We won't stop, everybody MOVE

[Chorus: Kanye West (Harlem Boys Choir)]

[1] - Now throw ya hands up bustless, bustas (Throw your hands up high)
Boostas, hoes, everybody, f[/b]uck that (ohhhhhh)
Still nowhere to go...still nowhere to go... (ohhhhhh)

[2] - and keep ya hands up bustless, bustas (Till they reach the sky)
Boostas, hoes, everybody, fu[/b]ck that (ohhhhhh)
Still nowhere to go...still nowhere to go... (ohhhhhh)

[Kanye West (Harlem Boys Choir)]
Aiyyo, two words, Chi town, South side, world wide
Cuz I, rep that, till I, fu[/b]ckin die
One neck, two chains, one waist, two gats
One wall, twenty plaques, dudes say, "Gimme that"
I am limelight, Blueprint, 5 Mics
Go getters rhyme like, shoulda been signed twice
Most imitated, Grammy nominated
Hotel accommodated, cheerleader, prom dated
Barbershop, playa hated, mom and pop, bootlegged it
Felt like it rained till the roof caved in
Two words, Chi town, raised me, crazy
So I live by two words, "Fu[/b]ck you, pay me"
Screamin, Jesus save me
You know how the game be
I can't let em change me
Cuz on Judgment Day, you gon blame me
Look God, it's the same me
I (Throw) basically know now (Your) we could (Up) racially profile (High)
Cuffed up and hosed down, pimped up and hoe down (ohhhhhh)
Plus I got a whole city to hold down (ohhhhhh)
From the bottom to the top
The only place to go down

[Chorus 2nd verse]

[Freeway]
Two words, Freeway, two letters, A-R
Turn y'all rap niggaz into two words, fast runners
Like Jackie Jurner, you better sleep with your burner
The heat skeet, blow a reef through ya car
My God, two words, no guns, break arms
Break necks, break backs, Steven Segal
Free...young bars, fresh men of the Roc
Left the beef in the pot Jay sent for his dogs
and broads, forget ya squad, let em find for yourself
Have you screamin out four words "Send for the Lord"
Two words, Freeway's slightly retarded
Fu[/b]ck around, throw a clip in ya artist, leave with his broad..

MEST - I Melt With You Lyrics

Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world crashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always... mesh and lace

I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
And there's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you

(We should know better) Dream of better lives the kind which
never hate
(We should see) Trapped in a state of imaginary grace
(We should know better) I made a pilgrimage to save this human's
race
(We should see) Never comprehending a race that's long gone by

(Let's stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world) You've seen the difference and it's
getting better all the time
And there's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you

The future's open wide

I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world) You've seen some changes and it's getting
better all the time
And there's nothing you and I won't do
(I'll stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you

The future's open wide

hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm

I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world) You've seen the difference and it's
getting better all the time
And there's nothing you and I won't do
(I'll stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you

I'll stop the world and melt with you (I'll stop the world and
melt with you)
I'll stop the world and melt with you (I'll stop the world and
melt with you)

SIMPLE SIMON

Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to the fair;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
"Let me taste your ware."

Says the pieman to Simple Simon,
"Show me first your penny,"
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
"Indeed, I have not any."

Simple Simon went a-fishing
For to catch a whale;
All the water he could find
Was in his mother's pail!

Simple Simon went to look
If plums grew on a thistle;
He pricked his fingers very much,
Which made poor Simon whistle.

He went to catch a ***** bird,
And thought he could not fail,
Because he had a little salt,
To put upon its tail.

He went for water with a sieve,
But soon it ran all through;
And now poor Simple Simon
Bids you all adieu.

The Parting Glass

O' all the money that e'er I spent,
I spent it in good company,
and all the harm the e'er I've done,
Alas, it was to none but me,

And I'll I've done for want of wit,
to memory now I can't recall.
So fill to me the parting glass,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

O' all the comrades that e'er I've had,
Are sorry for my going away,
and all the sweethearts that e'er I've had,
would wish me one more day to stay.

But since it falls, unto my lot,
that I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

Oh my hero, so far away now.
Will I ever see your smile?
Love goes away, like night into day.
It's just a fading dream.

I'm the darkness, you're the stars.
Our love is brighter than the sun.
For eternity, for me there can be,
Only you, my chosen one...

Must I forget you? Our solemn promise?
Will autumn take the place of spring?
What shall I do? I'm lost without you.
Speak to me once more!

We must part now, my life goes on.
But my heart won't give you up.
Ere I walk away, let me hear you say
I meant as much to you....

So gently, you touched my heart.
I will be forever yours.
Come what may, I won't age a day,
I'll wait for you, always...

Heres a poem my mom wrote when her grandma died.

My Heart Remembers

By Candy Ward

My heart remembers sunshine
My heart remembers rain

My heart remembers joy in life
And unendurable pain

My heart remembers the river side – and how I liked to fish
My heart remembers my first true love – and the beauty of that kiss

My heart remembers tiny hands – and the wonder of a newborn’s smell
My heart remembers laughs – from the stories I loved to tell

And even near the end – as my mind would slip away
My heart remembered you – each and every day

And when you would lean in close – to whisper in my ear
My heart remembered all the times – it was I who held you near

When it saddened you to see my struggle – when I couldn’t understand
Know my heart remembered still – how it felt to hold your hand

And when you’d look into my eyes – and I didn’t seem to know you
My heart remembered my love for you – Oh how I ached to show you

Now time passes for you each day – even though I’ve gone
But the heart of me remembers still
The heart of me lives on
