Forum search is back, or I think it's back, or we'll see.

After quite a few modifications (new server, new index, new code, new mysql optimizations), it appears to work. Or more accurately, it appears to now be capable of both searching and not locking up if it stumbles across a result set of 100k+ messages.

So, lemme know if I missed anything.

A few rounds of rate-farming by some of the more karma-obsessed members should test the stability of this "search engine" you speak of.

you'd have to hit upon ftfy, gfy is too short. (words < 4 characters long are dropped from the index)

Illia, you rock. And so does everyone else who helped get the search working again.

Edit: Better mark this down in the Asylum History Book.

2/21/2005 -

Forum search grand re-opening. Asylumers rejoiced and Illia spoketh: "Let there be massive server overloads as the people check thier searchability!"

I did a search on Totem. It didn't break. Test passed.

It won't order by date for me.

If I put in the starting date in the leftmost field, and the ending (most recent) date in the right field (most logical to me,) it always returns no results.

It also appears to only be doing exact matches for me (not case-sensitive.)

Angsty does not bring up angstycoder

a) I'd be shocked if that were true, date ordering is the default. Well, score/date is default but score is identical for all hits...

b) the default is newest date -> oldest date.

c) In my tests, it's case insensitive. "nagafen = Nagafen"

d) Complete word matches are the point :)

Think I found it.

The drop-down menu looks like this:
------------
Asylum
All Forums
All Forums
All Comments
All Comments
-------------

And one of the "All Forums" works, but not the other.
