As a rule, it is my considered opinion that little kids under the age of one year have little need for a father outside of the act of procreation. Granted, a dad makes it easier for mom by changing diapers, washing clothes, and helping around the house, but the physical act of caring for a kid is largely something the mom is made to do. After all, the nursing and cuddling all make the child want to be with his mother, unlike dad who just is a fifth wheel as far as childrearing is concerned.
I have always wished that kids came out of the womb at two years of age.
Anyways, I feel for ya, Flea.
They're gone today and the house is quiet. Too quiet. They were glad to see mom and dad. I became a second-class citizen shortly afterwards. I do miss them, though. Terrors.
I think that there are men who have a different view of fatherhood. Certainly they are capable of the tenderness that would be expected of a woman, but maybe conditioned so that it's less accessible. My grandfather was one of the sweetest men ever. He actually seemed softer than Grandma, in retrospect. My brother just happens to be one of those guys that feels that he plays a more authoritarian vs. nurturing role.
