XM Radio vs. SiriusFollow

I'm in the process re-outfitting my jeep with a new stereo system. The new head unit/reciever I'm getting is compatible with both Sirius and XM, so I was considering that it might be worth it.

So, I've got a free 3 day trial with each online, before I actually spend the 40$ on the tuner. I have to admit I like the lack of commercials. Another plus is that they have electronica channels... Sirius more than XM. The first thing I listened to on Sirius was Fly with you by Gigi D'Agostino, which made me almost scream on the spot.

Just curious, do any of you guys have any more experience with car satellite radio? I'm seriously considering it now, but I'd like some last minute opinions. Thanks!

Weirdest reply ever...

Anyway, I don't have much personal experience with either, but I'd suggest trying them out (as you're already intending) and go from there. Chances are they are pretty similar, but if one offers more channels than the other that you like, obviously you should go for it.

I've heard second hand (so I don't know how reliable it is) that some people have had issues with reception, but that seems to go against the very nature of satelite radio. So, if you get it loud and clear with no problems, it seems like a nice upgrade for your jeep. Smiley: smile

Anyways, does anyone actually know the differences? Or will I have to put up with more 2 postcount socks who think they actually know something?

I replied too, but I didn't really know anything. Sorry. Smiley: frown

No, but I'm interested in hearing about it, so somebody with some knowledge cough up. My radio is XM ready but I've never looked into it.

Aww, I just saw that! Smiley: flowers

I'm still checking out the online subscriptions while I'm here at work... so far Sirius seems to be winning out.

They're just competitors in the same market. I've been in vehicles with XM and was fairly impressed, only commercials were for XM events and lasted about 30 secs each.

I'm sure they are about the same, only thing I can say is check out the Better Business Bureau and see if any complaints have arrised against either one and then go off channel selections, whichever fits you best.

Also.

Although I'm not sure how helpful about.com really is.

I had to make the same decision and chose XM. Just look at their channel listings and see what interests you most. Sirius had more channels in the genres I liked, but XM ended up having one channel I liked so much that I got it mainly for that (The System). Also, it was cheaper since I got the XM stuff used off Ebay.

Both have webpages with descriptions of channels and what you're likely to hear on them. Go check them out.

I'm listening to the system as we speak, actually, lol. The thing I'm not liking about Sirius is that you have to pay a cancellation fee. That alone might make me an XM subscriber.

Ok, let me see if I heard this correctly:

You pay em one month and then they're not gonna cancel ya until you pay their cancellation fee? Dude, I'm in!

I have XM. The commercials are rare on the music stations. I listen to the uncensored comedy station most of the time and they do have a few more commercials but are still sparse. When the commercials do pop on, they have two good electronic music stations.

I'm not sure if Sirius has traffic stations, but on XM I can find out how bad the DC and Baltimore beltways are 24 hours a day and take alternate routes if I need to.

I understand Sirius is supposed to pick up Howard Stern.
Fuck Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony are better, and XM also offers Playboy radio.

My old roomate had Sirius, and the only selling point that Sirius could have had was the JamBand station. However, I went with XM for not only the reasons that HighFreq listed, but:

1)Family Plan. I am sure Sirius has the same sort of option, but my Fiance had XM, so it is cheaper for me to also have XM.

2)Smaller reciever. I went with the Roady2 which was the smallest XM reciever (might still be), which was a big selling point for me. I park my car in areas where break-ins are likely, and the ability to fit the reciever in my pocket was a plus.

3)Free Home kit. When I bought my XM, I had to mail in a rebate form and was sent a free
home kit. I bring it in to work and get to listen to my XM150 while doing data entry.

At the time I bought my satellite radio, Sirius had more commercial free channels, so I went with it. Now XM has almost the same amount of commercial free music. I too lean towards electronica, so Sirius was still a better fit for me. At the time of my purchase, I bought the head unit and antenna, the satellite tuner was free with that. ($160 value)

While it sounds good, you won't have any service if your account goes overdue. Personally I didn't know about the cancellation fee, not like I plan on cancelling ever.
