Do you have any songs that are just familiar and comforting to you?

Recently for me it's been Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You."
I have to listen to it at least once per day, or I don't feel right. Something about it just soothes me, makes me want to curl up in the fetal position. I'm sure I'll get sick of it after a while, but for now it's like an addiction.

Similarly, for a while I couldn't go to sleep at night without watching the M*A*S*H reruns at 3:30am. It was comforting to know I could rely on those opening guitar notes of "Suicide is Painless" coming on at the same time every night.

Several in Spanish. I used to listen to both Ten and Vs. (Pearl Jam) albums every night before going to sleep my first year away from home, followed by the Indigo Girls' Nomads Indians Saints. It was my bedtime mix.

Used to listen to Norah Jones a lot a few years back, she was very soothing. Kind of fed up with her now. Now if I want to relax before bed, some Wilco, Travis's "The Invisible Band" or the Smashing Pumpkin's "Tonight."

"Doing the Unstuck" by The Cure and the Lightning Seeds' "Pure" are more upbeat, but have always given me a great happy vibe.

Holly Cole is starting to grow on me, especially "Make It Go Away", which I'm playing while compiling this.

My "comfort" song right now is Family Business by Kanye West. I love his music so much.

Not comfort, per se but there's few situations where I can't feel at least a little better by listening to Sarah McLachlan's cover of "Wear Your Love Like Heaven".

Echoing Nursie, the first five albums of the Cowboy Junkies catalog are like a blanket to me.

I miss music.

In our little house, it's nearly impossible for me to have my music playing. Husband needs to watch ESPN... son wants to watch his goofy stuff... and it's always the battle of the sounds: TV vs. music.

I really need an iPod or some kind of MP3 player.

"If you leave" by Nada Surf. This is a re-done version and in my opinion it is much better. I was watching a little OC on a thursday night and this song came on. Download it tricky, you will love it. Purely based on the choice of music in your OP. I have been listening to this song for some time now, not everyday but whenever I get the chance.

Recently I have been listening to a song called, "Just to be the next to be with you." And if I do recall it is by Mr Big. Not exactly a well known artist but this song fits in the same category as Sarah's.

Sarah McLachlan is one of my favourite musicians of all time. There's just something about her mellow, smoky voice that soothes me. But my current comfort song is Evanescence - My Immortal. I know it's an internet cliché but DAAAAMN Amy Lee has an awesome voice. And I love piano solos. My other big comfort song lately (for obvious reasons) is Florida Inc. - Fu[/b]ck It. Here's the lyrics for that one, 10 points to anyone who can guess WHY I've been playing it 20 times a day. Smiley: tongue

Florida Inc. - Fu[/b]ck It

oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah[/b]

See, I don`t know why I liked you so much.
I gave you all of my trust.
I told you I loved you.
Now that`s all down the drain,
You put me through pain.
I wanna let you know how I feel.

Fu[/b]ck what I said, it don`t mean sh[/b]it now.
Fu[/b]ck the presents, might as well throw `em out.
Fu[/b]ck all those kisses, they didn`t mean jack.
Fu[/b]ck you, you hoe, I don't want you back.

You thought you could keep this sh[/b]it from me, yeah.
You burned bi[/b]tch, I heard the story.
You played me, you even gave him head.
Now you're asking for me back.
You're just another hag,
Look elsewhere 'cause you're done with me.

Fu[/b]ck what I said, it don`t mean sh[/b]it now.
Fu[/b]ck the presents, might as well throw `em out.
Fu[/b]ck all those kisses, they didn`t mean jack.
Fu[/b]ck you, you hoe, I don't want you back.

oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah
oh oh uh huh yeah

You question if I care?
You could ask anyone, I even said you were my great one.
Now it`s all over.
But I do admit I'm sad.
It hurts real bad,
I can't sweat that 'cause I loved a hoe.

Fu[/b]ck what I said, it don`t mean sh[/b]it now.
Fu[/b]ck the presents, might as well throw `em out.
Fu[/b]ck all those kisses, they didn`t mean jack.
Fu[/b]ck you, you hoe, I don't want you back.

Fu[/b]ck what I said, it don`t mean sh[/b]it now.
Fu[/b]ck the presents, might as well throw `em out.
Fu[/b]ck all those kisses, they didn`t mean jack.
Fu[/b]ck you, you hoe, I don't want you back.

Sab, that was a good song when it came out 6 months ago. Just kidding, it is still good, I like the smooth rythm it has going.

And for your question... because you're a homosexual?

I didn't read the lyrics.

Dark Chocolate is the best on Valentine's. So bitter.

The coincidence there being that I'm stuffing my face full of Cadbury's Dark right now.

Flea, let's get married. Think of it... you'd never have to worry about me cheating on you with other women, I'd ALWAYS have the right answer for "does this dress make me look fat?", I'd ENJOY going shopping with you, and you could have Darkflame on the side and I wouldn't object OR ask if I could watch. And we could mutually drool over Juanes. Smiley: inlove It'd be perfect. =D

I also like a bit of Sarah McLachlan. I prefer "Sweet Surrender" and "Do What You Have To Do" from Surfacing. It reminds me of this guy I was dating about 8 years ago or so. That's when I bought the album, and I guess it sort of hardwired him into my memory with those songs. I was pretty happy then. (Not that I'm not happy now.)

I also have a special place in my heart for The Sundays cover of "Wild Horses". For much the same reason that it reminds me of another time in my life. Plus, it's pretty mellow, which I like.

Oh, and Moby's "Porcelain". I could listen to that song any day.

Wonderfully convincing arguments, although why get married when we can share the pleasure of each other's company without all the nasty paperwork? Let's pull an "Object of My Affection" and be roomies, Sabo. I have just the color scheme for us. Dark chocolate and raspberry pink.

Besides, the part of my e-man is currently taken. Check my sig. Although I'm sure once Tare comes back Joph will toss me quicker than yesterday's Chicago Tribune.

Well, here's another suggestion, though it's more of a video recommendation than a song. Find a copy of Fatboy Slim's video "The Joker". You can't be in a bad mood after watching that one. ^_^

Flea: I can accept that alternative. =)

"Release" from the Ten album always gets me.

Especially when it swells:

Only if sex is bitter to you. Back when I still had it, I enjoyed it.

Or today's Sun-Times!

It's funny if you live in Chicago. Kinda.

Closing Time.

I've got a good MP3 of it live here in Columbia, Sc where they open talking about working at Sounds Familiar and listening to the Tom Waits version.
