i only have one anecdote in defense of this law:

in SF...at a cafe, early morning, order my bagel-n-cc, and caffeine.

counterperson brings me my stuff, sets it on the counter in front of me, i look down and her pants are so low i can see pubic hair...inches away from my food.

not good.

While i think this would be a ridiculous law (bikini's/speedos are perfectly legal but much more revealing) i cant say i would be horribly upset if guys couldnt go around with half their underwear hanging out. i would worry about it being enforced in situations where it just isnt warranted. pretty much any teenager occasionally manages to get their underwear above their pantline at some point or another.

in the grand scheme of things i believe this would set an awful precedent to ban a "style" (although i hesitate to call it that) simply because some find it offensive.

Practically everything is illegal in VA. Spitting on the sidewalk...every position in VA is illegal unless it's missionary. There probably isn't much left for them to make laws against.

My friend once lived in Richmond, went to VCU. His apartment was like the Fight Club apartment which made it interesting but scary at the same time. The bathroom was gross and leaked, and the fire escape was boarded up.

Richmond is not VA, even if it is the capital. It is one of the most god-awful, depressing places on Earth.

I lived in Virginia til two years ago, and all my relatives lived in Richmond. It's got some really bad areas and I sure wouldn't want to live there, but it's not too bad. I lived in Charlottesville which is a very nice town, as are a lot near the Blue Ridge and the Chesapeake. My favorite VA county is GOOCHLAND. Watch out for all the gooches! They like to climb trees and **** on passersby!

My stance on the issue-- displaying undergarments is an iffy issue, I could see a law prohibiting walking around in your boxers or panties, but these idiots and their shorts aren't much more revealing than some chicks revealing some of their bras or something. I don't really give a fuck.

BTW, what do FTFY and RACK mean? I tried to figure it out on my own but I'm stumped. You can respond to this query with FTFY but I won't know what the hell you're saying.

i agree with the above statements concerning the fact that there are more revealing and risque types of clothes/styles out there than having your pants falling off your ***. however, if someone wants to legislate this as 'indecent', then there are just too many things out there that might fall under the same category. one thing i havnt seen come up yet, that may be point in favor of letting the kids have their pants around their knees, is at least it might make it easier to tell which of these hoodlums is coming strapped, and who's just airing out a bit.

Ah, thanks. I thought the FY might be Fuck You. Yeah, Totem seems to like RACKing things. I thought that had something to do with his Alabama Black Snake.

You're being nice. I lived for there for about nine years and the best thing I ever did while living there was leave.

I was gonna say that was from Shorties watchin' Shorties but you may have been referring to the original comedy routine.

I think this is rediculous too; public decency is a joke. ...no, wait... Exactly what is wrong with not showing one's undergarmets? If they need to pass a law that prevents women from showing cleavage I'll vote for that too. Shame I'm not from VA.

In this day and age degeneracy is the new rule. Oh well.

Denis Leary's "No Cure for Cancer". I have almost the entire show memorized. Smiley: grin

There is little in life that can't be answered by a Denis Leary line or random movie quote!

I think I posted this once before in another thread, but the trend started in the prison system as a sign that inmates were willing to have sex with other inmates for favors. Thus the showing of their ***.

Hello all, long time lurker, first time posting. I was perusing the boards tonight and I happened upon this nugget. Like most of you all I disagree with the bill that they want to pass, however I was reading in the paper the other day that the bill has been shot down. Soemthing about it attracting too much national attention...http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=81962&ran=88526 So no more fears of not being able to see those scantily clad girls and gangster type boys walking down the street here in Virginia.

I just have to ask one question for those of you who responded negatively about Richmond....Just what is it you all find so bad about Richmond?? Honestly, I love Richmond. I went to school here (VCU in fact, not the best school around, but it was fun), grew up just south of here and have been living in the city of Richmond for the past 4 years now. Granted, the state of Virginia is pretty **** poor overall. I guess I was wondering what those of you found so bad about Richmond, aside from the murder rate that is......

Only problem I have with richmond is that Circuit City originated there. And when I worked there I was making assloads of cash, then they laid me off along with about 5,000 other people because we were making too much money. Dirty bastards.

It's a hollow shell of a town, dirty, unemployment and crime are through the roof, and the only folks that seem to not mind are the twentysomething punk rockers and students that enjoy the low rents.

To top it off, I've never had a single good night out on the town there, something of an accomplishment for me, considering that I'm pretty easily amused. The whole place is just so tightass.

Hmm next step in a new 1984 type society? Big brother Bush is watching...

Well, to each his or her own, I guess. I am neither a punk rocker nor a student, and I still seem to find good times. I don't know, I just love the atmosphere and history of Richmond. The crime and filth, from my point of view, isn't all what people make it out to be, either. Yeah, there are so-called "bad" areas, but every major city has their own. You just have to know to avoid these places. But meh, whattaya gonna do, right???

Hey Tstephens, next time you're in town, try to hit up a bar in "the fan" area, Cary Street Cafe, Sidewalk Cafe, and Cafe Diem to name a few. And avoid Shokoe Bottom at all costs, unless you're into the whole Frat Boy/Soroity(sp?) Girl/Meat Market type of thing..........

There is NO freedom of expression. Sorry but there isn't.

What most people consider freedom of expression is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as provided by the Bill of Rights.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Bill of Rights
