Eye.

Spelling and grammar have no bearing on the validity of an argument, unless said argument is about spelling and grammar.

People who spell like a brain donor are still sucky posters though, and will be ridiculed with the ferocity of an angry midget.

OK, I started skipping after a bit, So I apoligize if this has been touched on. The proposal reads:

Quote:
I propose the following: That counteracting anyone's argument against the quality/sense/construction of your posts with an attack on their spelling, grammar or typos is an automatic loss of the argument.

What I'm reading into this is that I can still attack their spelling, punctuation and grammar to my petty little heart's content so long as that is not the basis for contention against their actual argument.

(Though I'll probably refrain since my proofreading rate has lately degenerated faster than an alcoholic's good intentions on a taste test tour of in a distillery.)

Aye.

Even if my interpretation isn't the common one, I still think anyone who picks on spelling, capitalization, and punctuation all the time is an *******. I purposely cut back on that a bit before I had to change my avatar to a brown starfish. Smiley: yikes

Yes, exactly. As long as it isn't the substance of your counter-argument, feel free to pick them apart.

That's the motion. Ayes or Nays. Edits accepted.
I find attack a persons lack of spelling and grammar to be an excellent way of cutting them down and winning an argument.
The whole point of a flame or arguement is not to win the battle through the use of intelligent, constructive point making and putting forth the truth of the mater, so the majority agrees with you.
The way to win is to make the other person look/seem dumber than you.

I'm happy to skim over and ignore minor spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes, we all make them, but when some deadshit comes here (or any forum) and posts, using very lazy english, leet speak or writes a novel sized post, without a single paragraph, so it's one large chuck of writing, then I'm going to most likely attack them over it.

I personally think that making a decent attempt at spelling and grammar in your post (whatever the forum), shows a little bit of respect for yourself and for the people you hope will read what you have to say.
I normally look at a badly written post and think: "It's just not worth my time to read."

If you have something you think is worth posting, then take the extra few minutes and make it worth my time to read.

I say "Nay"

edit: because I always spell it "Grammer"...

Smash PMed me with the possibilty of meeting him for a drink when he was down here in L.A. That was near the begining of December. Then a week or two later he posted he was going down Mexico way to celebrate Christmas with friends. Just about that same time I sent him a PM to see if he was still interested in that drink but I never heard a word from him. I do believe he stopped posting just about that same time as well. If you were to ask me I would say he got himself into some trouble with the Federalies and is spending some quality time with Jesus and Jeffe in a 12'x 12' cell.

I've had my suspicions, yes... but the last time Smash did a sock, he kept Smash around. (at least I'm only aware of the one sock that Smash did and owned up to, could have been more, I'm not the sharpest knife, ya know).

I think Git is right though, lol.

If you do not believe what you are writing is important enough to take the time to properly capatilize, grammarize, and spellerize why the hell should I take the time to do anything other than take a big dump on it?

Amen, brother. If the writer can't be bothered to press the Shift key at the beginning of a sentence or when spelling proper nouns, then I can't be bothered to read or respond to their laziness. Unless it pleases me to mock them for their many faults.
