For those of you not in the Model UN at some sordid point in your lives:

Quote:
C-SPAN Congressional Glossary
Term Definition Used In
POINT OF ORDER A POINT OF ORDER is made during floor proceedings to assert that the rules of procedure are being violated.

A point of order halts proceedings while the presiding officer rules on whether or not it is valid.

In the Senate, the chair's ruling may be appealed by any Senator. The Senate votes on the appeal and the chair has been frequently overturned.

In the House tradition, appeals are also possible, but rarely entered and almost never succeed.

Tricky may be better able to tell me this, but didn't we decide at one point that the "spelling" and "grammar" defenses against posting-suckiness were technical fouls? Or is that only for Smash and people that don't use spellcheck?

I seemt to remember at some point that there was some concensus reached on this. If not, should we take a vote?

Over-looking the occasional slip seems prudent in most cases. For example:

Quote:

Coming from a regular poster, I usually see no reason to point this out. And doing so is a rather lame act. But when you have people who make absolutely no attempt to use punctuation or to correct the most obvious spelling mistakes, that's open game imo.

So let's try this:

I propose the following: That counteracting anyone's argument against the quality/sense/construction of your posts with an attack on their spelling, grammar or typos is an automatic loss of the argument.

That's the motion. Ayes or Nays. Edits accepted.

First edit by me. Thanks, Kakar!

Aye.

Attacking them because they are just too goddamn lazy or stupid to use punctuation, proper grammar and a spell checker is still open game.

Aye!

And furthermore, anybody who attacks people based on spelling of commonly used Asylum catchphrases (i.e. moran, looser, etc.) will be immediately devoured by wombats.

Aye! I love to pick on spelling as much as the next person, but I only do it when it's funny. Like talking about a "poo individual" in reference to enemas. I liked that one. :)

That is tempting. Might pass on a technicality.

I see no reason to even vote on that. That's a given. Notify the Master of the Wombats, would ya?

The exports in Libya are numerous in amount. One thing they export is corn, or as the Indians call it, "maize". Another famous Indian was Crazy Horse. In conclusion, Libya is a land of contrast.

Oh, and "Aye"

Agreed, as long as we spell it "consensus".

SORRY I CAN'T HELP IT, I'M A QUIBBLER.

However, I don't usually attack grammar/spelling as a debate tactic. I agree, that's just lame.

What are the required qualifications for a vote to be counted? (Post count, karma ranking, up to date Avatar, ability to formulate a coherent sentence, or just general "hasn't pissed enough people off to be discounted" status?)

Whatever the case may be, I'll throw an "Aye" in the mix in case it's worth anything.
