I thought S.A.D. stood for Seasonal Asylum Disorder, it usually manifests itself in the form of a sock or a troll causing them to spam this forum.
But it also can plague longtime Asylum posters causing them to stop posting all together and disappear for extended periods of time.

Christ we need to find a cure.

Cheezes!

Am I the only one on this forum that seems perfectly healthy and isn't on a severe life-skid?

Other than my emaciated, Ethiopian-like build, I'm relatively healthy. Most of my neuroses have subsided; I haven't given in to any paranoid delusions in several months.

Exercise? A few fligts of stairs in my house, and banging my girl a few days a week. That's pretty much it right now.

I know I need to exercise more. I can only gain weight by muscle. I used to work out in high school as a track/cross-country runner and I topped out at 130 (at 5'10"). After being kicked out of school I worked at McDonald's, stuffing my face non-stop, and munching all night after I got home. Since I was no longer exercising I lost 10 lbs of muscle tone, and have only gotten back to that point once in the past 7 years since.

You're one of those skinny metabo-listic bastards that can eat concentrated fat and not gain any weight aren't you?

Wish i was, i have to train far too hard at times to not get fat.
It's depressing to know that as soon as i lose the will to train i'll be a fat ******* Smiley: frown

As stated, I eat concentrated fat and lose weight.

Heh, I realize how much this must **** off most people. But knowing that a moderate gust of wind would blow me away to Connecticuit is not exactly enjoyable.

Like I have the energy for real excersise.

Honestly, I dont have any energy at all. I have a small child who is beyond energetic, so any energy I have goes to watching him and making sure he doesnt get in trouble.

My husband has an excersise machine I use a couple times a week, but its mainly for stretching out my muscles and I'm on a max of 30 minutes.

I'd get my *** kicked ledt right and sideways if i took a pill or some shi[/b]t like that, it might show up as a performance enhancing drug and since i'll be fighting professionally soon that's probably not a good plan.

Natural or not i'd still get extradited.

I take depression meds, my personality is a lot better than it was pre-meds. I see a lot of people who used to be like me, makes me glad I took my meds.

Meh. I used to be on Prozac when I was an angsty teen. That didn't really help - it was just another drug for me to abuse. I called them my "happy fun pills" and took double the dose, usually. Didn't seem to help my mental state and personality any, though...

You need to take a look at your diet and exercise routine.

My diet is fine, and for the energy I have the excersise I get in is enough.

You can sit there at your computer and think you have the answers hon, but you have no idea the lack of energy you have when you go through this. Getting dressed is a chore. Imagine chasing after an almost 3 year old boy hell bent on destoying your house in under 5 minutes as a daily routine? I'm surprised I still have a house.

Go with the lights (as opposed to toward the light). Be sure you have them in the areas you frequent during the day.

Wonder if they'll help your houseplants too.

for those who don't know what exactly SAD is here's a brief;

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type of winter depression that affects an estimated half a million people every Winter between September and April, in particular during December, January and February.

It is caused by a biochemical imbalance in the hypothalamus due to the shortening of daylight hours and the lack of sunlight in winter.

For many people SAD is a seriously disabling illness, preventing them from functioning normally without continuous medical treatment.

For others, it is a mild but debilitating condition causing discomfort but not severe suffering. We call this subsyndromal SAD or 'winter blues.'

and it's symptoms;

Sleep problems: Usually desire to oversleep and difficulty staying awake but, in some cases, disturbed sleep and early morning wakening
Lethargy: Feeling of fatigue and inability to carry out normal routine
Overeating: Craving for carbohydrates and sweet foods, usually resulting in weight gain
Depression: Feelings of misery, guilt and loss of self-esteem, sometimes hopelessness and despair, sometimes apathy and loss of feelings
Social problems: Irritability and desire to avoid social contact
Anxiety: Tension and inability to tolerate stress
Loss of libido Decreased interest in sex and physical contact
Mood changes In some sufferers, extremes of mood and short periods of hypomania (overactivity) in spring and autumn.

Link

The only symptoms I carry is the difficulty staying awake and the extreme fatigue. I don't have any of the others, but I'm still classified under this.

DsD, I hate having to take medicines, but have been on anti-depressants for 6 years now. Getting treated is far better then being depress.

That said, I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow to see if he thinks I have S.A.D since I'm doing worst then normal. If not then, my current anti-depressant has stopped working as it should. I wish I was on something as simple as Zoloft to go on and off of. I have to wean off Effexor XR has slowly and not sure what I'll do until we find another drug that has been as helpful.

Thankfully Jonwin asked what was wrong this weekend and made sure I went to therapy today.

That's what my doctor originally wanted to give me as he said my lethargy was pretty bad, but I told him under no circumstances did I want to have any backlash on getting off the drugs in the spring if I decide to take them. So instead he gave me the "mild drugs" if I decided to try them.

I took a look at those lights, and the best one for me (and cheapest) still comes out to $180. I'm going to suck it up and buy one, but I think I may try the samples he gave me and see if they do anything. If I dont like it, I'll stop. I was told there is no ill effect in stopping them. I just hate drugs if I can help not taking them.
