a question to those alive during the vietnam draftFollow

What it sounds like you actually mean, pardon me if I'm reading into this, is you'd actually join if it became fashionable. I think that the fear and panic caused by 9-11 did in fact change the way we exist, and without some remedy, will only affect us more. I do not believe we are the same nation that existed on September 10th, nor will we ever be again.

Quite simply, I would like to see AH state that he is either about to join the military, or he is about to join the majority of our youth who expect some higher power to protect them from the big bad wolf. He keeps back-pedaling which only instigates me more. He could have simply said that he has no intention of fighting what he considers an unjust war, and I would be happy with that. However, he continues to posture and back-pedal instead. C'mon, AH, just admit that the American way of life is awesome if you don't have to do anything to receive it, and I'll leave you alone....

Otherwise, in the words of Jack in "A Few Good Men," (rough approximation) pick up a weapon, and stand a post, either way, I could give a rat's ***.

Well, no one guessed. Your hair and nails. You'd be surprised at how much of the crap you put in your body often ends up there in trace amounts. A strand of your hair, analyzed with the right equipment, can often tell what day you took what.

I was just impressed by the irony of this thread, given Hippo's current career.

I don't see what's so hard to understand about his position. 9-11 was not a war. A few fanatical terrorists does not a war make. 9-11 is over, it was done the day it happened. There were no "troops" sent. There was no enemy marching forward onto American soil, or firing missiles. A few terrorists hijacked a plain and destroyed some buildings and killed some people.

In short, the threat would have to be evident and on a much larger scale. Would AH signing up changed the results in any significant or predictable way? Probably not.

I hate necro posts.

Well, unless I post them, or at least found it to be an interesting post in the first place.

Judges? No, no, I'm sorry. You didn't phrase it the form of a question, and it's planes, planes, there was more than one and they weren't large open grassy spaces where the wind comes sweeping down, but in fact flying machines. You won't be joining us for Final Jeopardy, I'm afraid.

Honestly, I barely notice your posts exist until something far too stupid to be ignored leaps out.

I have no desire to abuse the mentally crippled, however, I'll ignore all of your posts going forward. Good luck.

...in my semi-annual lurking phase...

Just to clarify:
1) Saying, "I'm gay!" did not get anyone out of Vietnam. It only led to beatings and a multitude of stupid tasks added on by Sarge.
2) I would not worry about an Iraq draft. Ain't gonna happen, would never get through Congress.
3) However, an Iran War draft...
