Now, considering that most of us are geeks, it's unlikely that no one here also does media work, be it graphics, sound, or anything like that.

So, what programs do you guys use?

For me, Photoshop, and to a lesser degree, 3DS Max. I mostly use 3DSM for crappy little abstract things...Made using a box or teapot and then using the modifiers liberally. About the best thing I can actually make is a bomb-omb.

I've been trying to learn flash for a long time, but suck at it. I finally caved in and bought some books on it, and am making a little headway. Nowhere near being able to actually use it for webdesign, though.

I have a ton of software I don't actually use, ranging from discreets now discontinued Plasma, to Adobe Premeire and After Effects.

For those of you interested in learning stuff like this, the absolute best place to start is 3dbuzz.com - They have a very comprehensive video training library which you can download for free. There are a few sets that require being a paying member, such as their C++ volumes, and several special editions - But besides that, free.

For Photoshop, the best way to learn is by getting techniques from different things and learning how to apply them. There is an endless possability of things you can make that start out with a simple Render Clouds filter.

good-tutorials.com is a nice start.

http://cgtalk.com/ has a great community for graphics.

I don't know much about any of the sound stuff out there like Soundforce and Acid or whatever, so someone else would have to point you guys in the right direction there.

A list of all the programs I use.

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe After Effects
Adobe Premier

Maya
3DS Max
Macromedia Flash
Macromedia Director
Macromedia Dreamweaver

Debabelizer Pro

Soundforge

Lots of various plugins & add-ons for Photoshop, After Effects, Maya & Max

I work in multimedia so I use these programs a lot for work and sometimes I like to do things in my spare time.

Since I just do graphics at a newspaper (and we really don't create too many of our own original stuff), I use Photoshop and Illustrator. Multi-Ad for the ads and Quark or InDesign for page layout.

I tried to use Maya... But after getting used to Max's UI, I just couldn't do it.

I use the Gimp and play around from time to time with C++.net. Aside from that, it's all games.

The price is right. I'm a cheap *******.

And if it makes you feel any better I just got a new computer and couldn't find of a copy of .net. Back to 6.0 now.

Photoshop CS and occasionally Painter Classic. Good luck and blessings, Prana (who wishes she had flash)

I'm the same with maya, I love Maya's UI and can't stand Max's. I have to use Max for some of my work but very little of it.

I have an old copy of Paint Shop Pro 5.0 and.. umm... Windows Paint. PSP provides for whatever limited graphic editing needs I have which is mainly restricted to resizing images for avatars and some website work back when I used to maintain a website.

Pagemaker is evil (and about to be discontinued, thank god). We cringe whenever we print a paper for someone who uses Pagemaker. The damn thing hardly ever comes out right.
