A little light reading for you Obama fans out there on this Inauguration Day.

Personally I doubt he will run but I'm not really qualified to guess either way.

I thought this said Osama...
I think that alone (the name confusion) would be enough to turn most people off.

Smiley: laugh You weren't kidding on the light reading. I don't know enough about the guy to say I'd vote for him, but I can't say I like his chances to win if he did make it out of the primaries.

I think Gore will take it but this would be a nice turn of events.

Heh, it was intentional. I'm too lazy today for any sort of political debate but I found the column to be interesting fluff. Sort of a "Huh. Yeah.. maybe.." piece.

Didn't this election prove that you can't win the white house by ignoring the south?

Now if they could only convince the Republicans to run Singing Keyes in '08 then everything would be dandy.

On the light note.

Today I was switching back and forth between Franken and Rush.

Franken: I've gotta hand it to the republicans, Bush got the most popular votes in the history of US elections. The person with the second most popular votes in history is John Kerry. (paraphrased)

Of course this means just total vote count, not percentages or anything.

Rush: The reason president Bush's approval rating is so low (51%) is because he spent his political capital tackling hard issues. Take out the Iraq war that's another 10 points, so 61%. Take out his need to fix social security that's another 5-6 points. So without him dodging problems and tackling the hard issues that gives him a 70% approval rating. (paraphrased)

Which explains why Rush never has good solid facts. People could too easily refute his opinions Smiley: laugh

Anyway, the question was whether or not he would run not whether he would win. In fact the column suggests a failed run might actually do him some good since he'd learn more from that than he ever did from running against Keyes.

Obama still has a much better shot at it than Hillary if he decides to run.

I think you may have meant to word that in such a manner as to actually make sense. I think.

Granted. Moving beyond that, however, and quite possibly completely hijacking the thread, do you believe that America is prepared to take a black candidate seriously now? Do you believe it will be in 3 years? 7? 10?

I would suggest that there would have to be a serious shift in the map were that to be the case. Also, I would tend to take more seriously the threats of cessesion from the decendents of those who tried it once than those of a bunch of whiney California tree huggers. Believe it or not, there are still quite a few people in the South from who's mouths it would be completely in character to hear "I ain't about to live in no cuntry whar a nigger cun be pres'dent."

EDIT: Edited for technical issues, not content.

More so than at any time in history. Enough for a black candidate to win? Hard to say.

I am a republican, I make no bones about it, but I think this man has some good ideas. I honestly belive that he is really concerned with bringing the country together, and not necessarily just back to the left, as most other democrats want.

As for Hillary, I can ASSURE you, Obama has about 1000% better chance of getting elected, even if he is black and muslim.

EDIT: Typo

I think that may have been one of the most tortured sentences I've read lately. I think.

Rush rarely, if ever, has solid facts on his show. The show is based on rhetoric, most of which could be easily dismissed with facts. But maybe you can give Boondock your username and password to the Limbaugh site and have him prove me wrong.

Actually, it has more a African tribal origin to it than a Muslim one which makes sense since his father was from Kenya. Which I guess would make it a pagan name, if anything.

It's okay for you to just admit you don't know what you're talking about.

Funny thing is, my roommate last year worked a lot for the Deb Feinen campaign. I saw him a few days after the election. Needless to say, he was not a happy camper since she got rocked.

There's an old running joke that the easiest job in journalism is Rush Limbaugh's "fact checker".

"There's a whole lot of Illinois outside of Chicago. Deb won't forget that."

I think Deb underestimated that fact that there's a whole lot more voters inside Chicago Smiley: wink2

Yeah, I know it was a State Rep. election so it wasn't state-wide but her slogan still made me chuckle.

My bad on the winning/running, you're right. I honestly don't care whether or not he wins/runs, but rather we put someone in there who can. Of course that's not the point of the thread either.

Edit: By we I mean us progressives/liberals/leftys/dems
