My real name is Richard, not Rick, Rich, Richey, Ricky or Ricardo and only D1ck if I properly managed to **** you off. I like my name, it is a name of strength, a name of kings, so whenever some asshat decides to assign me a nickname, whether out of spite, pure laziness or in an attempt to do the Alpha male deal with me, I tell them in no uncertain terms my feelings concerning the matter. It’s not a sign of affection, you don’t know me well enough and if you did you would know I despise nicknames, it’s a malicious and underhanded attempt to place me below you in the pecking order. Every time you call me by the nickname you are telling those around us you are the stronger and smarter male for having forced it upon me. I feel so strongly about this that I have made enemies out friends who insist on using these monikers.

That being said I cannot believe how callous and obvious Bush is about it:

Quote:
Sen. Ben Nelson finally has succeeded in getting President Bush to stop calling him by the nickname "Nellie."
Bush had been referring to the Nebraska Democrat as "Nellie" since 2001.
Nelson disliked the nickname and had asked the president to stop using it.
The president likes to give people nicknames. He has called Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, "Pootie-Poot," while aide Karen Hughes gets "High Prophet."
But Bush heeded Nelson's request to scrap his moniker, and at the recent White House Christmas party, the president referred to Nelson as "Benny."
"The president had a twinkle in his eye when he called me that," Nelson said. "He knew what he had done. I said, 'Thank you, Mr. President."'

You've had a degrading moniker forced upon you haven’t you, a ghey little shortening of your name or a humorous one perhaps? Its ok, everyone knows you were some guys ***** at one point in your life and it stuck, nothing to be ashamed of, certainly nothing to be touchy about.

When I sold cars I developed the nick name "Skippy" because I was the youngest guy there who was selling cars like candy bars.

For years everyone called my "Skippy" and to this day when ever I see any of my old work mates they still call me it, im not even sure if they know my real name

to Git, on that whole nickname thing, what about girls calling u something like Richey? would u accept that while not accepting guys calling u by that?

btw, didn't Bush call the president of Taiwan a S.O.B serval times while in a public setting just a while ago? -_-;; regardless of what he really thinks, he really shouldn't use something so rule to call the head of another nation.

Richey was my ex-wife’s nickname for me; a diminutive of your name from a woman is often a sign of affection. On the other hand one of my best friends calls me dumbass all the time, she does because she knows it irritates me.

Git, you're a bit **** about your name, but I do see Nellie having a point...

And yes I do know about nicknames. Be thankful your own name isn't easily converted to "cumrag" - that's a nice highschool nickname. Dick, indeed.

Funny. A group of friends I had in HS through college made nick names for anyone who we hung out with. Amoung our crowd, it was a sign of acceptance. You weren't "in" unless you had some sort of a nickname. I've never met anyone who felt the way you do about it. So, I will respect your wishes... until you least expect it.

You do realize you've given us fodder for months to push your buttons, right?

I actually prefer to have my name shortened into a nickname. The only people who call me by my full name are my parents and this one woman I work with.

Yes, I'm talking about being called Nad

So your name is actually Nadenu?

If you're joking you got me. If not where does the name come from?

Lol no.

Nadenu was my first main character in EQ1. Name came from the random name generator. I never liked it, but I played that character for so long that I got used to it.

My RL name is Melanie, and I'm always called Mel.

In 11th Grade I was the shortest guy in the basketball team (5'2") but the best scorer

My nickname was 'stumpy'

Within a year I grew like crazy and was 6'4"

The nickname stuck

Now I'm 6'7" and no-one knows why my nickname is still 'stumpy'

They think it means I have a tiny *****.

They're right Smiley: frown

My real name is Brittany. It's not Britt, it's not Bret, it most certainly is not Bridget (yet I am called this all the time).

No one who knows me shortens my name. I like my name the way it is, it works, I like it.

I have nicknames as well, but nothing that has to do with my actual name.

And before anyone goes there, I am older then Britney Spears, and she doesn't spell hername right. Brittany is the original spelling of the name.
