Really? I just thought the name was weird. Can you recommend some of the songs so I can judge for myself? I pulled up all of the lyrics to every album they have released from 1995-1998 and I don't think I have ever heard any of there stuff on the radio.

Usually though when a band is doing a Christmas album after only 3 years it is a bad sign (although there are excpetions, Manheim Steamroller, Savatage, I'm sure there are others).

Oh and keep rating me down people! It makes me feel less valid!

"Hell" & "Suits are Picking up the Bill"

two of my favorites. "Hell" was on the radio and Mtv.
really though, about All of their songs I like.

it's wacky swing music with a touch of dixieland and a dash of jazz mixed with blues.

Very unique.

i may be missing something here, but wouldn't you think that someone using the name 'futbol' might be a little more tolerant of latin music?

HFS went off because only like 5 people listened to it. I think they had like a .5 share in the afternoons. Plus HFStivals have been getting pretty crappy lately. ever since that guy died when eminiem was playing, no one good has come. Besides goldfinger.

hell yeah.
My first festival in '95, Goldfinger was headlining. I discovered that I could dance to punk(ska) and not get laughed at, on the contrary people were surrounding me cheering me on.
Good Times.

I don't live in DC and so didn't really pay attention to this thread, but there was a segment on NPR about this station this morning.

Sounds like an institution was lost. Sucky.

Agree wholeheartedly. I have quite a few of their cds. It's hard to categorize what type of jazz they play - sort of swing, sort of ragtime, sort of dixieland - they really are students of a southern-style of jazz from a bygone era. They definitely have an eclectic sound. They have 3 singers - All with their own distinctive styles - the female singer, Katherine Whalen, pretty much does a dead-on Billie Holliday, but still quite a unique sound for our times.

When I visited DC Wednesday, I was greeted by HFS' new playlist. Some friends and I were discussing the the change over and, in a Clear Channel kind of way, it makes sense.

DC101 is also a CC station. So, essentially the two have been competing for the same market despite being owned by the same group. Unfortunately, I'm guessing DC101 has a greater percentage of the market, and by changing HFS' playlist, what part of the rock market it didn't have will probably migrate to DC101 (or be smart and just get XM like myself). Thus, DC101 gets a bigger market and CC can gain a new market - latino music.

Stupid Clear Channel.
