Presumably the law covers everything from laser pointers to nuclear shoe bombs, kind of like the 'hate crime' thing. Sort of a catch all to make any "terrorist" crime potentially carry heavier sentancing than "illegal transport of nuclear materials".

this isn't a dollarstore LED laser pointer. Once a beam from one of these lasers hit the windshield it was likely defracted all over the cockpit. any idiot intentionally shinning a laser, any kind of laser, at a commercial aircraft full of people should be treated with the same respect an idiot waiving a water pistol around in a bank would.

we take air travel for granted here. the lives of every one on that plane, men, women, and children, are totally reliant on the man flying the plane NOT GETTING DISTRACTED.

there are alot of stupid people in jail. let him reside with his peers.......

Absolutely. Until you've seen how funny it can be getting a cat to catch the "Moving Red Dot" on the wall...you won't fully understand that there are definately more than 2 uses to a Laser Pointer.
