think you missed my point. even if you were test be promoted today, your power will not increase tomorrow as a results of putting on a new belt. only time on the mat will do that.

yes 3rd in our system is also the first step into the black belt ranks were you will start to blossum(sp?) so to speak.

we use the board breaking as a means to show focus and a little bit of power. none of those breaks for me were a real challange power wise, but due to a few injuries it took a bit more focus then normal for me. thats ok. its all fun just like the fighting and forms. forms are my favorite thing to work on other then just basic drills. the fighting is fun too, but hard to train when the nearest person who is a challange to my (can push me) is 6-8hr drive. so i work on what i can, as im sure you do too.

All i can say about fighting is...

There is a big difference between sparring, fighting under controlled conditions and fighting in RL.
I try to avoid at all costs doing the latter of the above three.

At times in the ER I have to help deal with drunk, drugged out users or just plain pissed off people, who can get very aggressive to the point of physical violence towards Medical Staff and the other Public.
We've had knives pulled on us, syringes (needles), blunt objects, you name it. Luckly so far no guns. I've been kicked, punched, bitten, scratched, spat on and none of it is nice.

Honestly I am scared everytime I have to try and "fight" with one of these people, but I don't realy have a choice, when it comes to trying to protect one of the Nurses, Doctors or Joe Public.
I'm very aware that I can get hurt, but I'd rather take a beating, than see one of the girls cop a smack in the mouth.

I don't get to pick who I fight with, I just have to hope like hell, they suck at fighting, worse than I do...

I think that one scene in "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark" says it all about martial arts in the modern era.

You know Taco it doesn't shock me at all that you are a high grade martial artist, somehow it fits, and i mean that in a good way btw.

I studied Issinryu for about 6 years. Made it to green and, was supposed to take my brown test. Then the Sensei found out i was $@&%ing his daughter and that kinda ended that...lol. We were 17 at the time.

I've thought about taking it up again but, working 2nd shift kinda screws it up a bit since most classes are in the afternoon/evening.

I really enjoyed it though.

I've seen few examples of physical agility, power and discipline as impressive as Parkour (Free Running).

When you see the originators (David Belle and Sebastien Foucan) in action, it's like watching spiderman for real.

Check out here.

grins, make me think of the knife fighting data ive seen form the police. if you do not have your gun drawn and the hammer cocked a skilled fighter will win at up to 20ft. at 21ft the quickdraw artist will have a chance to beat him, outside of 21ft the gun man will win 99% of the time.

Can anyone recomend a good offensive martial art? I took Tai kick boxing for a while but had to quit because of a deployment. I am a tan belt in the Marine martial arts program. It is a good program but to basic. Any ideas?

Krav Maga

That, Judo, or Jiujitsu. I personally prefer defensive martial arts. However, anyone can easily argue that a good offense is a very solid defense.

in my style we do Shaolin (defensive) and Kempo (hard fist fighting). You mostly learn the Shaolin at Ni-Dan and above. (2nd black)

I've actually been extremely intereswted in kung-fu, though there are almost no schools around. Namely because I like the different substyles, such as drunken kung-fu. If anyone has any info, that would be peachykeen.

Well, more specifically, is it its own "brand" of kung-fu which you have to learn from the ground up? Or is it more of a variation that you learn after gaining partial mastery of the art?

I true wrestler can be a badass fighter. Although they should open up their style a little bit to include strikes. Krav Maga teaches suppressive force, which is a mainstay in greco-roman wrestling.

wrestling is martial arts. some styles base it on it; jujitsu for example.

I study the Martial art where you learn how to punch and kick people, and stick sharp objects into their squishy parts.

If you can call Wrestling a Martial Art then I am Martial Artist. I've been wrestling since High School. I'm talking about real wrestling not WWF.

Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate your attempt to clarify this for us...but what do you take the rest of us for? A bunch of complete freaking idiots? I mean...you could have just said that you have been involved in wrestling since high school and I do believe that if 20,000 people had read your comment nary a one of them would have thought that you meant that you were getting it on with Stone Cold Steve Austin twice a week.

I realize that we have some real simpletons that post here, but in the future please give the majority of us a little bit of credit.
